Alonzo’s hand in building the roster

Yes sir.

Star rankings matter but it’s not the end all especially when your program is located in south Florida. If you can evaluate you can steal 5-6 underrated studs a class .
And Coaches around the country know this (i.e Rutgers, Syracuse, etc) and why they recruit so hard in So Flor. Miami's issue was laziness for the most part and let those underrated studs go to those other schools and excel.

UM will always be attractive to any coach because of this. Which is why we had 20 years of interim Principals at the helm. CMR would get a pass except he had his son here - but even with that, he knew somewhat of what made Miami great. He got things started a little but left it to another interim Principal who had know clue. Those underrated studs were now popping up all over the country - leaving UM fan's questioning how come we let this cat leave So. Flor? (smh)

Finally we have a full time Principal, with a great resource Vice Principal in Alonzo. Not Many of those underrated studs will be leaving as much as before.

He has Zo written all over him. He was a nobody with a few offers

I'm from NYC, went to school in upstate NY, there is NOTHING going on in Binghamton, NY except year round grey skies and a casino two hours away. And we found Colbie Young who has barely been in the program for one year and is already WR1 and producing and getting better....

The key part. Character , hard workers. that’s competitive that love football. Oh and that’s talented.
Those early 2000 teams Butch built were filled with great players AND they seemed like good dudes. Role guys and team guys are HUGE. Those kids were tough as well.

Everyone wants to be a star but you have to know your role, accept it and do it well.

Side note- was pretty pumped for DP’s kid, he played great.

People mocked him and the Davis take but role guys and team guys are very important. Cam isn’t as **** as say Skinmer looking like a gazelle running down the seam but Cam does so much more. Including actually catching the ball when asked. He does all the dirty work because most kids don’t like that stuff. But then again he’s not a kid lol. All jokes aside him and Davis were monster adds.
I’ll be straight honest here - I wasn’t a fan of the Davis pickup either bc I wasn’t impressed in HS and that OU secondary was straight garbage when he was there.

But David and Porter were great yesterday. It’s good to be wrong as a fan when it produces results like that. Davonte has me scratching my head a bit bc he was the one I was most excited about but he struggled a lot.

One underrated quality I keep seeing pop up is toughness.

I saw multiple guys.. guys on offense and defense laying the lumber on folks.

Bisainte(sp) was leveling dudes
Davis tattooed Amari Daniels on that FF
Colbie Young steam rolled a defender
Restrepo on KR
Chaney on pass pro
James Williams with multiple lights out hits
Kam had a couple too.

aTm was fighting all game but you could see it.. the hard hitting was wearing on them.

If we continue this type of edge, sky’s the limit

What’s also notable to me is that there were a few guys we identified and missed on who would have been great as well, like Keon Coleman. We’re looking at who we have but with who we targeted and prioritized, it’s an even bigger group of good evals I think.

@RVACane can you put Zo's head on Clint Eastwood and Mario's head on Amy Adams?

Kind of OT, mainly cos we benefit from it, but the one thing I hate about the Transfer Portal is the bigger teams cherry picking good players from smaller teams - like us with Lee and Alabama with Gibbs last year.

It must be soul crushing to be further down the food chain having recruited and coached up these lower-ranked players, only to see them hoovered up.
Don’t forget us taking Cohen from Bama. That little school must be furious

Aside from the freaky TAM WR's, you would have thought Miami was the much more talented 5 star team. I know we've closed the gap recruiting wise but we are still 1-2 classes away from having the blue chip ratio we want. None of those 5 star TAM defensive lineman really showed me anything.
Some of our Oline made some money yesterday. Rivers, Cohen and Lee all called their “agents” after that game.

Fair enough. ... Either way, I see Zo as Clint Eastwood's character in Trouble with the Curve. He just knows what to look for.
Lol I don’t know the movie. It would actually be a more timely edit as that’s not an image set up to go.
