alex collins vs Duke johnson

Cook cant help us next year. Collins can.

Underrated comment, something our fans have difficult time grasping.

That's pretty strong, but again, who has Alex Collins played against?

He is my favorite recruit for this year's class (and maybe even next year), but it does begged us to question, who has Alex Collins played against. Delvin Cook scored over 200 all purpose yards in the state championship last year— as a sophomore and on the biggest stage.

What has Alex Collins done against the best schools?

Can someone post this? I would like to see Alex Collins' stats against real schools... i.e. Miramar, Saint Thomas, etc?

That is irrelevant to what LexCane posted.

The point is many "fans" look forward to 2014, 2015 etc but have yet to realize those kids CANNOT help in the current year/season. So when it comes to Miami' season in 2013, only kids in the 2013 class (or prior) can help us that year.

I am excited for 2014 kids as well but we need Collins in this class for a different reason.

Collins' team (South Plantation) did not play St. Thomas Aquinas in either of his years there. The best teams they played were Deerfield Beach and Miramar.
Against Deerfield, Collins had some big games. I believe he went over 100 in each game. Collins absolutely eviscerated lower competition, but that's been well established.

Collins had a very good game against Miramar in 2011. He had 92 yards on 25 carries against the Patriots. Still, his team lost 38-0 in the first round of the playoffs.
This year, Collins was held squarely in check by the Darkside defense, and specifically by LB target Jermaine Grace. I had Collins for 5 carries, 22 yards, and 1 catch for -1. The Herald had him for 7 carries and 6 yards or something close to that. Either way, his performance was less than stellar.

Now, the elephant in the room is: South Plantation just isn't very good. They played in a WEAK district, and waltzed into the playoffs. If they were in Miramar's District, or even up with the Palm Beach teams, there's NO CHANCE they make the playoffs. What does that have to do with this discussion? It's very easy for a good defense to isolate and contain Collins, who was without any help on that side of the ball (miss me with your comments about John Franklin. He sucks).

Collins did well to find space against Miramar in 2011, and regardless of his production against us in the playoffs this year, he still has some ELITE skills, which I believe will translate very, VERY well at the next level. ICYMI, I wrote over 2,000 words about them in my Recruit Notebook on Collins. You can read that scintillating feature here

Sony is a once every 25 years kinda back, hope we land him

What is Duke then? He's unreal.

As a Jr in HS at the same point, Sony > Duke, alot bigger/stronger/faster.

This is just incorrect. Maybe on paper if we want to get caught up in the "bigger/faster/stronger" fantasies. Not on the field. Sony is bouncing a lot of his runs outside. Consider it a precautionary measure or a reaction to the injury, but it's reality. He also plays for American Heritage. Look at the film. Look at the Safeties he's outrunning. Go back and look at Duke's film. Look at the Safeties he outran.

Duke has better vision, cuts, but Sony would smoke him in a foot race/weight room today as a HS Jr, and every other day for the rest of their careers. They are both elite at what they do, but IMO Sony is the better prospect, elite speed and ideal RB size, likely the #1 back in the nation next year, and hopefully a Cane. Just my opinion though.

// not hating on Duke, just giving Sony his props

They're different styles. I prefer Duke's, but I'm going to be happy if/when we see Sony's style in a Cane uniform. Next year should be a telling year for Sony. I'd like to see him cut up field and do less bouncing outside against crap competition. I know it's easier, but it raises concern as to whether the big numbers will translate. The reason Duke's numbers translated so well is because he isn't doing anything different (stylistically) from what he did in HS against players (safeties and LBs) that have somewhat similar speed to some of what he faced in his first year of college. That's what made the projection a little more straightforward than Sony's projection.

Sounds fair to me, personally I see Sony as a first round NFL draft pick barring no more injuries. Think Lamar with more inside running ability/cutting ability/strength and the same breakaway speed.

Don't think Sony has Lamar Miller speed. Not this year atleast.

An article I read the other day said he was running some 4.3s, not sure if true though. Also said he was squatting 550+ and benchin 400+. I know he ran a 10.6 100 as a Fr or So in HS.

His junior year in high school was his first year of organized football... That is scary! His potential is insane!

but it's not like football is a game requiring tremendous amount of skill. the most important thing in football is athleticism.

let's get real, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer all require much more technical ability.

The big thing I think many forget about Duke is that he elevated his game his senior year. He was already a blue chip going into his senior year, but I think the strides he took his senior year were immense.

People underestimate Duke's instincts. Some guys just have a knack for finding open space. Marshall Faulk was that way.

"Faulk ran a 4.28 forty-yard dash time at the combine and measured 5'10 and 207 pounds. On March 31, 1994, Faulk ran a 4.35 forty-yard time at the San Diego State Pro Day."

^^^^^^^^
that helped too

Duke all day every day and it's not even close... go look at his HS high light tape again kid did everything and willed his team to a state title. oh and he did pretty good for a freshman breaking miami records
