Cook cant help us next year. Collins can.
Underrated comment, something our fans have difficult time grasping.
That's pretty strong, but again, who has Alex Collins played against?
He is my favorite recruit for this year's class (and maybe even next year), but it does begged us to question, who has Alex Collins played against. Delvin Cook scored over 200 all purpose yards in the state championship last year— as a sophomore and on the biggest stage.
What has Alex Collins done against the best schools?
Can someone post this? I would like to see Alex Collins' stats against real schools... i.e. Miramar, Saint Thomas, etc?
That is irrelevant to what LexCane posted.
The point is many "fans" look forward to 2014, 2015 etc but have yet to realize those kids CANNOT help in the current year/season. So when it comes to Miami' season in 2013, only kids in the 2013 class (or prior) can help us that year.
I am excited for 2014 kids as well but we need Collins in this class for a different reason.
Collins' team (South Plantation) did not play St. Thomas Aquinas in either of his years there. The best teams they played were Deerfield Beach and Miramar.
Against Deerfield, Collins had some big games. I believe he went over 100 in each game. Collins absolutely eviscerated lower competition, but that's been well established.
Collins had a very good game against Miramar in 2011. He had 92 yards on 25 carries against the Patriots. Still, his team lost 38-0 in the first round of the playoffs.
This year, Collins was held squarely in check by the Darkside defense, and specifically by LB target Jermaine Grace. I had Collins for 5 carries, 22 yards, and 1 catch for -1. The Herald had him for 7 carries and 6 yards or something close to that. Either way, his performance was less than stellar.
Now, the elephant in the room is: South Plantation just isn't very good. They played in a WEAK district, and waltzed into the playoffs. If they were in Miramar's District, or even up with the Palm Beach teams, there's NO CHANCE they make the playoffs. What does that have to do with this discussion? It's very easy for a good defense to isolate and contain Collins, who was without any help on that side of the ball (miss me with your comments about John Franklin. He sucks).
Collins did well to find space against Miramar in 2011, and regardless of his production against us in the playoffs this year, he still has some ELITE skills, which I believe will translate very, VERY well at the next level. ICYMI, I wrote over 2,000 words about them in my Recruit Notebook on Collins. You can read that scintillating feature here
