Dude sucked. His defense sucked, his abilty to identify competent coaches sucked, his abilty to develop guys sucked, and his abilty to hold the program accountable sucked.
FACTSWhat went wrong was that Al Golden was a fraud who had convinced not just UM, but the entire industry that he was a big time head coach. He was nothing of the sort. But again, the entire industry thought this guy was the next up and coming hot coaching commodity.
When things went sideways for UM due to the Nevin Shapiro scandal UM ended up doubling down on Golden about 15 minutes before everyone in the industry realized he was a huckster extraordinaire. At that point we were stuck with him until it was too late.
You're not a good troll.golden wasn't a fraud he was a good coach. he was given a team with no talent, no depth, and abunch of cry baby south florida kids/fans.
Some people say Coker, some people Shannon, but to me Folden hands down no question was the worst Coach we've had in the modern era.
Bruh if MR stood two more years u think he could of challenged golden as woat coach? That would be highly possibleWhat happened is he should've NEVER been hired here in the first place.
Folden was a sh*t corch at Temple & showed in year 2 after getting shellacked by K State & losing to a 4-8 UVA squad that he had no business being here at all.
Al Folden completely sunk this program to the absolute bottom of the pit of ****, Richt tried hard to bring us back above sea level, but we're still to this very day feeling the impact on the recruiting trail of just how awful Folden was.

U started this thread.
So basically if he wasn’t al golden.I hate Golden with a passion just like everyone else but I'll say this - if the dude replaced D'No with an aggressive DC and landed Dalvin Cook instead of FSU he may still be our coach today. Yes he ****ed up a lot of things but those 2 alone would have easily translated into 3+ more wins per season and kept him around
the "cultural fit" is BS and our fanbase actually believes that. look what Dan Mullen did with "florida kids" . he's a great coach.
our fanbase is obsessed with democrat buzzwords like "Savage" and are all about twitter memes.
smh
Right, but going by the podcast it sounded as if there was far more than just a unworkable defensive scheme that was rotting away the Miami program. If so, what was it?
With Randy, it's easy to pin down. Minimal budget for staff leads to gambles and untested personnel being hired. The players do not develop under this staff and get worse as their careers progress. An NFL scout says in 2009 or 2010 that Miami is the worst coached team in college football. Miami refuses to invest in other things that schools on the ascent like Alabama have added, like a nutritionist. Players are eating once a day, and eating at McDonalds. Randy has poor relationships with multiple Florida HS coaches, and as a result key pipelines of talent are gradually shut down.
