Joe Rose: Coach, Duke beat of GT. Did that surprise you?
AG: I don't get into that. Duke had a Bye Week.
Joe Rose: Coach, You were 3 for 10 on 3rd Downs.
AG: The fact that we had so few means we were progressive with the ball.
There is more.......
You know, there really is plenty going on with this team to legitimately question without looking for stuff like this. First, every team hates playing another team coming off a bye week as it really does give the bye week team a bit of an advantage in preparation and just getting the team healthy, over bruises and rested up. Second, we had 20 first downs with 17 of them coming on first and second downs, so where was he wrong with that statement?
Had we LOST against Cincy, then those third down numbers would have been the reason we lost, that's what's wrong with the snake oil salesman's statement. But since we won? Well ****, them numbers were just dandy.
Well guy, we averaged over eight yards per play with Cinncy, so we were naturally getting a whole lot of first downs without getting into third down situations. Which also contributed to putting up 600 yards of offense. Generally speaking, not too much to complain about when the offense puts up those kinds of numbers. I was reading on another site this morning and someone took the time to go back over the year and put together the third down numbers as relates to distance. In summary, when we are in third and less than four yard to go, we are near fifty percent success rate on third down. When we are in third and long, much less, and the numbers showed that we have many more third and longs than we do third and shorts.
