After we fire Golden, let's not over-correct

FAU doesn't stand a chance unless Kaaya goes down. It's year 5 and we only have 1 real QB on this roster.

You know what Urban, Saban, Jimmy Johnson, Butch, etc. all have in common? They can ******* recruit! I understand coaching is important; however, I'm a believer that recruiting is by far the most important talent one must have in order to be successful in College Football. Golden has missed on too many elite players in South Florida. They don't believe in him. I think bringing in someone from the NFL, who can sell the program, would be great for the program.

Recruiting is obviously important, but would this program be radically different if we had landed Amari Cooper, Alex Collins, Keith Bryant, Matthew Thomas, Sony Michel, etc...?

We'd still be underachievers if we'd landed more big fish. We need a guy who can do more with less.

Answer this: if talent is the key, why did Miami go 6-7 last year when Miami had more talent than every team they played except for FSU?

Yes, Miami under Golden has missed on some recruits but there was still more than enough talent to win 10 games last year. The issue for Miami is not talent - the problem is terrible coaching.

Having the most fertile recruiting ground in the entire country is this program's greatest built-in advantage. Discussions about future coaches should never become debates about Xs and Os vs. recruiting. We need and should be able to get both, which is easy to lose sight of after the administration made three atrocious hires in a row.

Golden is unequivocally awful at both coaching and recruiting. He corched Miami to its third losing season in 35 years and predictably landed a class barely ranked inside the Top 30 in his fourth year on the job.

We don't have the coaching to compete for anything meaningful or beat anyone we're not supposed to beat (i.e. FSU, Clemson). We have more than enough talent to compete in the awful ACC, but nowhere near enough blue-chippers to be in the national title picture. Look no further than our OL, WR, LB, and DB situations right now. We're ultimately lacking in both. It's not an either-or discussion.

I think Golden's a good recruiter. His problem is he's a **** coach, which impacts his recruiting. There are plenty of great recruiters that ultimately fail once it's proven they can't win games. If we were winning 11 games instead of 6, the blue chip guys that we've whiffed on would be in the mix.

Saban coached at Michigan State, won a national title at LSU, coached the Dolphins before Alabama would hire him.

Harbaugh coached Stanford to a PAC 12 championship, coached the 49ers before Michigan hired him.

Why is it that Alabama and Michigan won't sniff these coaches until they've built up a strong track record, but at Miami we're supposed to be happy with some low-level coordinator?

Coaches have to be AVAILABLE.

Alabama had a lot of fail in between Gene Stallings and Nick Saban.

Michigan failed with Rich Rod and Brady Hoke. ****, Rich Rod almost took West Virginia to the national championship game, and was a disaster.

You act as if it's easy to know who's going to be successful.

You do what you can to stack the odds in your favor.

Al Golden proves that the MAC is a different animal from Miami. I don't want a MAC coach. Going 12-2 at Western Michigan proves nothing... see Larry Fedora.

All of our coaches that we have had success with in the past have either had NFL head coaching experience, or they were head coaches at NCAA schools who played top competition regularly.

You're quickly proving yourself to be one of the dumbest posters on the board.

By all means, let's not over correct. Let's stay mired in mediocrity.

Butch Davis is the answer.

Firing Day is 82 away.

This single game is often cited as our resurrection. Edgerin James was good for 299 yards.
We lost to McNabb's Syracuse 13-66, the previous week.

We had tickets to the original scheduled date, but Hurricane George did it in.

Refresh my memory; did Butch ever beat FSU?

Hire Butch Davis, and you don't have to fret about all of this.

Uhhh...yeah. It was the best game that I have ever been to in person. The Orange Bowl was really rocking that day, College Gameday was on site, and it was hotter and humid as ****. One of the best experiences of my life.

How long have you been a "fan"?

After we fired Shannon, we wanted a guy with good communication skills who had experience building a program.

i think the president and trustees knew that the ncaa was a-coming hard on the U and that they were going to throw the book at us and they went and got an excellent PR guy who would likely remain here notwithstanding being lied to because after all it was Miami.

smart move in the short term, but we got an awful football coach

Like Butch Davis said recently. Someone has to be able to recognize talent and coach the **** out of them.

That's what it takes at this level. We can't miss on multiple guys every cycle that end up being great, out of our backyard, and we never offer. Or vice versa, offer and get someone that ends up being completely over rated or just gets on campus and isn't coached the right way.

Don't know for sure what's going on at UM right now but it's some combination of evaluating players and coaching players. I don't think its one or the other.
This guy gets it.

You have got to be one of the biggest morons in existence if you forgot Wide Right III, or any of the Wide Rights/Left

Either that, or "the storm" is one of these new-era UM students who doesn't know anything about Miami's legacy.

Of course he did. Tho he was 0-5 to start.

Yeah, in fact, that's the reason THE U Part 2 was made. THE U, left off with the crash of the program with scandals and how we almost got the death penalty.

Enter THE U Part 2, enter Butch Davis, as the NCAA punishments took effect, UM didn't even have enough players for a scrimmage - but Butch recruited carefully, and as these young players matured, they lost one game in 2000, won the 'ship in 2001, and won it again in 2002, although the thieving OSU has it in their trophy case.

Dumbass.

No arguments over here. Coaching has been an issue with this program since Butch Davis. Additionally, I don't see any current coaches on Golden's staff that will be future head coaches. That is very telling about a coaching staff. Jimmy and Butch had amazing coaches under their supervision. They developed their players. We haven't seen that in over a decade.

I am just saying, recruiting is incredibly important to be successful in College Football. Golden has recruited good talent but I think I don't consider him a great recruiter or talent evaluator. I believe Jimbo or Strong have a better connection with South Florida athletes than Golden does. Whoever our next coach is needs to understand the art of recruiting South Florida kids. He needs to be able to connect with the community. Too many elite players are leaving our back yard.
