ACC grant of rights explained

Apparently if 8 of the schools want out at the same time they can dissolve the conference and get out without having to pay the exit fee and the conference losing the media rights. If we can go out with 7 others 4 to each of the new conferences we should be fine. Schools like Wake Forest are ****ting their pants right now
The Big 12 would love to have Wake after their last few seasons.

Can't see ESPN leaving a rising Miami and its huge market out in the cold. ESPN, better than anyone, knows the monster ratings that a great Miami team attracts.

Duke, UVA, Pitt, GTech, and UNC are AAU members, so the B10 could heavily consider them along with Stanford, Oregon, Washington, and Cal who are also AAU members. See if the B10 adds all these schools they are considered the Athletic Ivy Conference. Thats not to say schools like Rutgers and like Northwestern still shouldn't be in there because they bring little to the table athletic wise...Same with Vanderbilt in the SEC - but they are AAU too. Virginia Tech and Miami could probably earn AAU membership as we both have larger Research budgets according to NSF and NIH than at least like 10% of the current AAU members - and much more than Notre Dame.

And from the SECs perspective I'm sure they'd love to add UNC too with UVA and Duke tagging along with them. FSU, Miami, and Clemson are the top dawgs of the ACC though, and would get stolen first.

I think BC, Syracuse, Louisville, Wake, NCSt, and Maybe GTech are in the no-mans-land area where the B10 and SEC may just not want to go to 24 or something, and therefore don't add them.. Especially since the B10 naturally fits a lot more schools than the SEC like Stanford, ND, Oregon, Washington, Cal, etc. That would bring them up to 21 along with USC and UCLA. Not too many spots would be left. I'd say the final 3 (Unless like a Rutgers is kicked out) the B10 would want is Duke, UNC, and UVA. The rest is offered to the SEC...

You forgot one very big negative about Pitt. If the B1G invites them, they are also inviting Mark May.

I was reading through for this scenario, gracias

I know we all wanna blame blake james, but every AD in the conference at the time went along with this monstrosity, including Dan Rad at Clemson. But I still wanna blame someone. Who the ****'s idea was it for everyone to sign away their rights to the mid 2030s, in a deal that for years now has universally been considered a horrific deal? All these other schools in the pac12 and big12 don't have to deal with deals that even go into late 2020s

If the B1G wanted to get aggressive and out flank the SEC to the end game, they move to 24 now.

- Finish out the West and add Wash/Ore/Stanford
- Notre Dame
- pluck Miami, UNC, Virginia, and Clemson out of the ACC

For a heavier southeast penetration, could trade out Stanford for Georgia Tech.
Problem is the BIG isn't in a position to pluck anyone while the ACC conference is in tact. ESPN ... who owns the SEC Network and the ACC Network ... could support a painless transfer from the ACC to the SEC to enhance their SEC Network but they have NO incentive to "permit" ACC teams to leave without penalty to join the BIG 10. The agreement referenced above is the old 4 page agreement. The new agreement is reportedly a 20 page document containing additional clauses ... and APPARENTLY one clause is a COMPETITIVE REVENUE CLAUSE. Would be nice if somebody could get ahold of this new agreement ... one interpretation I read was that the clause made the agreement "malleable" ... providing a possible reason for voiding the agreement or permitting members to leave without penalty ... if they were receiving less money than "similar teams in other conferences". Seems too good to be true.

I’m curious which schools have those clauses. My understanding is only a few do. Could be an opening.

Interesting tha ACC GoR agreement places a x3 current year operating budget to buyout of conference AND school forfeits media rights through 2035.

$120MM x3 = $360MM + Miami's GoR value through 2035.

That's a non-starter.

"Its pretty rock solid."

We should've just joined the SEC back in the 90's instead of joining the Big East. We wouldn't be in this situation...

What an absolute disaster of an agreement this GoR is. It's hard to fathom how stupid all these AD's and university presidents were when they decided to sign, and then sign AGAIN this albatross.

ESPN and Andrea Addelson are trash spewing propaganda

The whole world knows the ACC tv deal is grossly one sided… good luck to espn if Clemson and Miami told ESPN to F off and come collect our exit fee in court while cashing Big Ten checks from Fox.

There are so many nuances to this it’s not as cut and dry as that biotch Andrea writes

Maybe there is some "viability of league" clause?

Maybe some "we aren't keeping up with the market so I can leave" clause?

Not saying they are right, but awful lot of stories keep saying the same thing: ACC has a very "strong" GoR chain tied around each member.

Great if you are Syracuse or Boston College. Not so much for Clemson, Miami, et al.

What if a majority of members said "we are leaving"? Is their some vote of membership clause to change the GoR?
