Acc and Coastal

GT - I agree we should handle them. With extra days to prepare, and being at home, I think our front 7 handles them and is the reason we win.

But I think it's closer than most think.

Since Paul Johnson has been at GT, Richt was 6-2 vs. GT (same as Miami). 6 of those 8 games were decided by 8 pts or less (only 1 Miami game was decided by under 10 pts). It's a rivalry game, so it'll that can make the games tighter - but it wasn't like Richt was blowing GT out. And the game was pretty straight up last year if it weren't for the 2 quick fumble return TD's right before the half. "Richt was holding back on offense" was a popular thing to say for the GT game being so close, but the next 4 losses showed that wasn't really the case.

GT's QB had 1 start last next year, and ran for 120 yds & 2 TD's in a win @VT, so they might not have much of a dropoff at QB, and they return all their other skill players.

GT definitely doesn't have the talent to hang with us straight up. But I do think they're talented enough to keep it somewhat close. So if we come out flat and fall behind and start chasing, or get some bad turnovers, GT is good enough to catch us IMO.

In the last 10 years, we have gone 8-2 vs GT. We got obliterated on Thursday night in '08 and an 11 point loss in '14 with the infamous linebackers 10 yards off the ball lineup. The key denominators in the 2 losses? Turnovers. We caused a combined 1 turnover in both of those losses. In our victories, we average a little over 2. Why is that significant? Because you only get the ball 7 times per game against them. If we cause turnovers, we win. Simple as that.

This year because the Atlantic is so strong we won't be at a "Coastal" disadvantage. Call it what you want, but bc Fsu has been significantly better than us the past 6 years we pretty much knew we were 0-1 in the ACC and ****** Tech and Unc might get cake walks! This year they dont, they get Ville and Clemson . . . not both:)

Whatever else it means, it certianly means we aren't a game behind them from the jump . . . so to speak.

I actually think anything less than the Coastal division win and playing for AccT is a disappointment . . . not absolutely, but most likely.

Good post and everything is correct except for the last sentence.

It is absolute. There is zero excuse for not winning the Coastal this year. It doesn't matter if Mickey Mouse lines up as our quarterback. With our defense and returning players combined with the relative weakness of our schedule there is absolutely no reason we shouldn't win double digit regular season games and win the Coastal.

Period. The time for excuses is in the rear view mirror.

The reason for the non absolute comment . . . the plane flying back to Miami could pull a Marshall and were left with6 scholly players . . . just sayin.

It would absolutely be a disappointment, and a verdict on our future with CMR. If Fedora and Fuente are his daddies now, it will only get worse, and they will become the ACC version of CMR's SEC Muschump and Butch Jones

Took Fuente 5 minutes to take a VT program that had lagged behind Golden's Canes, and make them aCoastal champion, and move light years ahead of CMR.

It's pretty hard to even speculate considering we don't know exactly what we have at QB yet....at all.

CMR knew he had no QB's when he took the job. If he has done nothing to rectify this in year two, is it honest to think he will do it in year 3 or 4?

What if another coastal team goes undefeated and wins the ACC championship and plays in the CFB playoff, and our ONLY loss of the season is to them?

Will that happen? Not likely at all. But imurcane was correct. not winning the coastal would be a dissapointment, but not absolutely.

You, having Jedi in your name should know that only a sith deals in absolutes.

Then it's a failure. There isn't one Coastal team that should touch us this year. We shouldn't have lost to any Coastal teams LAST year either...but let's forget about the 4 game abomination and move on to a new year.

Bottom line. The path is clear this year. There is no probation. There is no lack of talent. It's Richts second year and homeboy is making A LOT of money. 10 wins and a Coastal title are the baseline upon which Richt should be measure this year. We flat out gave away some games we shouldn't have lost last year so it's time for him to make up for some of those.

The biggest thing Richt has going for him right now is that prized recruiting class. Fail to win the Coastal this year and we'll all be holding our breath on just how many of those prized recruits we end up keeping. Winning 10 games and the Coastal isn't just about this year...it's about the future. Kids and parents need to see results or else the biggest accomplishment Richt has done to this point will evaporate with a quickness.

Well this just proves how unreal your expectations are.
I gave you a crazy improbable but not completely impossible scenario. And instead of just taking away your Absolute Failure line, you doubled down on it. Think you need to reevaluate where we are as a program.

For everyone that considers GTech a legit threat or a potential Loss for us, I'm curious to know why?

Not even being combative, I'm just wondering what makes y'all think they can compete with us?

Richt never loses to GTech like ever, in 16 years of preparing for them it's extremely rare for them to ever get the best of him.

They do nothing special that our Defense can't stop & their Defense simply doesn't have the capability to keep up with our firepower.

We play them at Hard Rock, so they don't even have the idea of Home field advantage to be confident about...

I'm honestly just asking y'all to enlighten me about something that maybe I just don't see about GTech that makes them a threat that so many of you think we could lose to them?

Throw in Pittsburgh.

There is ZERO excuse to lose the coastal this year. It would be a MONUMENTAL disappointment.

He secured a QB for 2017 and is securing an incoming QB for 2018. Was he supposed to start recruiting QBs at Miami while he was still at Georgia? It's kind of hard to blame the current staff for the previous staff's inability to recruit.
