Academics: Harvard of the south? Or just South Florida...

Down from #38 several years ago. Now tied for #48 with Jorts U and Ped State. Some company, huh? What a joke. Most of our students get saddled with a lifetime of debt along with that TJ Max degree at a Tiffany's price.

Lol at college rankings. Biggest waste of time and lie going. Everyone nationally and internationally knows who the big time schools are when it comes to academics. Whether you're a UM, UF, FSU, VT, Bama, Oregon, etc it doesn't matter cause it's all viewed the same.

If it's not an academic powerhouse currently it will never be considered one. I have nothing against a school that wants to improve it's academic standing. That's a good thing. Just don't lir to everyone or to yourself about where you stand academically and that's what UMs admins do.

LOL at Tennessee higher average payscale than Miami. That said I don't mean to disparage those who went to Miami. And, when it comes to football I'm typing this from my home office painted in UM green and orange. Admittedly I would have attended the U given the opportunity.

Most of the time you get out of a school what you put into it. But the view out of the library window at my school was much nicer.

tied at 48 nothing special , Miami will never be known as a school of academics that was some kind of dream of Shalala and she failed like she did as school president. What she known for is being a politician thief who should of been fired on the spot for taking money and letting the rat hang around
Listen i think there are ridiculous things about Miami and the admin, and harvard it will never be.

But some of you are just so stupid the other way too. there are 4000 universities in this country.... top 50 is not a joke.

There are 116 i think football programs. and top top is exciting.

Not making excuses, but lulz at people writing off any top 50 educational school, even if its not harvard.
Are liberal arts schools included in that 4500?

because they aren't included in your top 50 ranking.

Shalala took us from irrelevant academically to outstanding when we reached the #38 ranking. That's due to fundraising into the school, the growth of the graduate departments, and acquiring preeminent teachers. This is done generally based on the reputation of the president and the reputation that the president builds for a school. This capital, however, eventually runs out and causes a backslide until a new president is hired/elected.

President Shalala's capital is just about fizzled. Even academically it's time for a change and the right could actually make Miami a top 25 school. Like it or not, she generally accomplished her task with the school and her successor may take the academic profile of the school to a prestigious level and with that achieved, the goal will be to maintain that position and then money can be pumped into the football/sports program/s.

Bull****, unless by her task you mean establishing a falsified legacy at the expense of UM and the community. All the expensive faculty, unfounded pension liabilities, and graduate expansion, particularly the medical school, has left UM hurting for cash, and the school as a whole is suffering. Not to mention the effect her delusional vision and Cedars Hospital had on Jackson, which has done harm for the community and will really **** Miami's economy if changes aren't made. She'll ride off into the sunset with the after effects being felt 10 years from now, and stupid people won't bat an eye.

Thank Vinn for finding this article. This only highlights her corruption and mismanagement at UM.

Shocking UM's credit rating has continued to drop since this UHealth over expansion. Hundreds of millions of dollars of unfounded pension liabilities and massive debt. The layoffs already started.

All she's good at is fundraising (which is as much her as it is Sergio Gonzalez by many accounts), schmoozing with rich, political elite, and spending lots of money that isn't there to spend.

only thing Shalala has accomplished is killing a football program and her scandals with a rat

I just try to keep it real, she sucks and this is coming from a recent alumni, who for the most part worship the ground she walks on for whatever reason.

UM is a very good university. It is not a great university. Truth be told, you can get better or equal for less.
The university once had a great football program fwiw.

That shooting off of what I said. Her positives to the school's academic reputation pretty much ended in 2010. She ran her course back then and in addition to being a detriment to the sports of the school she's hurting it academically as well.

We're a respected national university but we're also still a safety school for a lot of in-state kids applying to a lot of schools with legit longstanding reputations. Shalala has improved the national academic reputation but not as much as some people like to think. When Foote left we were pretty much just outside the top 50 and at best the Troll Queen improved our rank by about 15 spots at our "peak" ranking and only a handful of spots based on our current standing. Foote accomplished wayyyyy more academically than Shalala can claim while she destroyed the football program in the process. It'd be freaking refreshing to finally get a president that doesn't pretend to value the program (Dahhhna) or one that values it but feels compelled to keep it in check constantly (Foote) on the next go around.

We were at #38 when Shapiro hit. With the inclusion of so many reputation points in the US News rankings I think the public perception hit we took with the rat also hurt our US News ranking.

44k for tuition? nice scam Shalalalalala has going on

have u been to a private school before? all private school tuitions are ridiculous for the most part. miami is better than most since most of the students NEVER pay full
