The whole situation with pulling in ND half-assed into the conference and letting them bottom feed with half of their schedule to prop them up for the playoffs is suddenly making sense.

Teams didn't want to schedule ND because of their lack of commitment to a conference and the ACC gave them a life line. They then let ND influence pulling Cal and Stanford into the conference for no reason.

Phillips was placed in the role he is now to bail out ND. If they didn't get the 6 game per year ACC deal, their schedule would be Navy, Army, Air Force, USC, and a bunch of nobodies and they could never have a playoff worthy resume.

The Tobacco Road schools and UVA/BC act to protect him unfortunately.

When half the conference’s fans and power brokers are thinking “when does basketball season start?” By October, your conference has a cultural problem.

Miami just needs to keep building/winning setting ourselves up to be swooped up the moment the next round of realignment/expansion occurs in 2030. That’s when the ACC dies, and these basketball-first programs go to the bottom of the basement with no power, where they belong.

this isn't some new conspiracy. Notre Dame has been receiving special treatment for years. In the past you could say their brand was so powerful that it was justified for college football but now the sport has exploded and Notre Dame is maybe the 10th most watched college football team but right in the middle of a group of 10 or more teams. college football really needs to stop thinking special treatment of ND helps their brand. the numbers just don't bear it out anymore.

There's no way Tobacco Road big $ folks are good with this either.

I would agree. Swofford will probably step back in in the interim which is awful in its own way

But they need to get the career administrator/bureaucrat out of there and evolve to the new landscape and get some kind of CEO or Network Exec on there ASAP or this conference is absolutely cooked.

ironically when we had one more loss than the top group of acc teams the pressure was somewhat off the ACC but now with us having the same amount of losses and just an absurdly better team than duke the league and this result just look stupid. they might not be able to fix it this year but if they don't make serious changes they risk permanently looking like a total laughingstock.
