A tidbit on TE recruiting

lol… where did anyone say anything about last year, or the fact that the staff wants to take 2 TE’s this year? We’ve struck out on all the top tight end targets so far. Doesn’t mean they still won’t land a guy, but I like the way Dmoney tries to throw the smoke screen.
@DMoney

Does UM plan on playing Deroche at TE?

Hes been committed since August 19th 2025. Just curious given the staffs "whiffs"
on all targets.

He's been recruited as a DE is my understanding. He's made that pretty clear in every interview and tweet he has made.

So we getting worked all over the recruiting trail still?

Team mope stays grasping at whatever it can get ehh?

Lol

What a way to live.
Im not a mope ****sucka

A month ago we wouldn’t touch the kid and were moving on cus of an injury and now poof he’s good after we didn’t want to spend on a guy. Just an interesting development

They couldnt dig further on his injury a month ago if they liked him so much preinjury?

Cartwright was always a major target. He’s visited several times.

Dollar was a premier target and a miss. I don’t think it really impacted the other guys because we were always a long shot there.

The timeline is that Cartwright looked like the most likely TE commit for months (check prior Banks) and then Karhoff heated up because Cartwright came to his spring visit in a cast. We did some digging, the price point exceeded our evaluation on Karhoff, and the medicals looked clean on Cartwright.

Cartwright’s other OVs are LSU, Oregon, Michigan, Michigan State (he’s a legacy) and a TE factory in Stanford. He is a hot commodity.
I swear I am not trying to hate, but this doesn't make sense.

Cartwright was a major target, then he showed up to his visit in the cast and then months later we decided to do some digging and found out the ankle is fine?

If he was a major target and a priority, wouldn't we have done all the digging right away instead of writing him off to waste time with Karhoff?

It feels like he was further down the board and now we are circling back, which is fine, that is how it works. But there were other tight ends higher on the board, clearly.

I think you can trust him to build a team and think he is doing a great job while also admit that it is a little rich to pretend we love this guy when we pursued like four tight ends ahead of him.
Is Deroche not a tight end then? That kid committed to us **** near a year ago.

It feels pretty well established that Deroche is a developmental guy, which, again, I am completely fine with. Local kid with big traits? Take him. Cartwright is 6'5' 235 but was maybe a little injured and is a bit of a project? Take him too.

Just don't tell me this was the plan all along. We aren't going to get 100% of the kids we want, so then we move down the list and pursue the next guy. We all know how it works.

93 days until season starts.

Fair enough

Portal is still open for us as well unless of course we make the title game because the NCAA is so awesome at common sense scheduling.
