The ACC had a reputation as a Cuckboi Conference because too many of its teams (ahem, Miami...) weren't holding up their part of the bargain nationally for 20 years. So the talent was going to Tuscaloosa, Columbus and Athens.
Don't get me wrong, Va Tech and FSU had some memorable teams, and Clemson had its historic run, but with out Miami making its mark, the ACC had little to say for itself.
Now everyone is bitc&ing just as Miami is turning into Gojira.
Meh, the talent was going to the SEC because we all know the major programs in the conference were NIL-ing illegally for years. An SEC homer will spit out his entire cup of chewing tobacco and scream WHERES THE EVDENCE?!? but it’s so obvious that was the case for so long. I mean there actually is plenty of EVDENCE of Ole Saint Nicky paying players along with several other SEC programs but the NCAA was too busy investigating USC, Ohio State, Miami, and anyone not protected by the “Good Ole Boy” system.
I mean did anyone notice how the NCAA was coming after us and other power programs of the 2000’s around the same time Saban started building his dynasty at Alabama? Oh and they were out for blood too. The punishments dished out were insane.
Ohio State - A few players got some free poorly done tattoos. The punishment? Postseason ban which ultimately kept them out of playing in the 2012 National Title among other things. There was more, but that’s the biggie no one really talks about.
USC - Reggie Bush got some benefits for being a badass on the field. They took his Heisman and made USC vacate a National Championship. That is incredibly harsh. I know they gave Reggie his Heisman back but I don’t think the team is still credited with winning the championship on the field. Crazy.
Miami - They found nothing. We lost scholarships and self-imposed post season play 2 years in a row.
Could you imagine the NCAA ever investigating Alabama and giving them anything other than a slap on the butt cheek? Never. And I guarantee Saban slung more cash to those players than Reggie could spend in 100 lifetimes.
Now that NIL and the transfer portal have leveled the playing field, the SEC clearly isn’t what it once was. The ESPN talking goons will try and convince everyone they’re still the best conference but the results on the field say otherwise.
2025
- Losing head-to-head matchups with the BIG and ACC
- 5 teams in a 12 team CFP and not one SEC program beat any non-SEC opponent unless you want to gloat about Ole Miss beating Tulane. Oh and no Natty representative. Alabama was absolutely embarrassed by Indiana. Georgia couldn’t get it done against a coaches Ole Miss team and while we beat Ole Miss in a close contest, it was our worst performance in the CFP and we still managed to win and control the game.
