A note about Miami three-stars

Have you ever been to a beauty pageant swimsuit contest? Lot harder to rank the hotties when there are 70 or 80 of them. Now, run over to Home Depot, walk on hot chick down a couple isles and ask the local gents how pretty she is?

RB looks fast when all the defenders are running like they are in sand. Put same guy on field with a bunch of 4.4 and 4.5 guys and 60 yards runs become 4 yards.

My opinion is stars have a lot to do with how much of a powerhouse your school is. For instance, if you go to STA you get plenty of coverage, everyone knows who you are. But like D-moneys man Jawon Hamilton, he goes to South Dade, where they get minimal coverage compared to schools like STA and Central. So to me it has to do with exposure mainly, the more you get your name out there, the more likely you get your stars up. There's just so much talent out here it's hard for them all to be exposed. A lot of them don't even hit the camp circuit, which nowadays has a lot to do with rankings and getting your name out there.

Richt has always recruited S Fl well. 3* Geno Atkins being the standout name off the top off of my head.

He wasn't a consensus 4* and who goes to Yahoo/Rivals anymore?

The bottom line is Richt never had any issues recruiting S FL. He also has kids that weren't 4*s or 5*s in the NFL.
 
I'm curious to see if MR can pull a top 10 class this year considering how much damage the previous HCs and their inept coaching have done to the program

3. Promotional campaigns and camps in PB, Broward and Dade to indoctrinate the communities and future talent to be Canes fans.

4. Game day atmosphere should be electric and different from what you get at a hickville college town. South Florida style with pre-game concerts with popular artist, music and dancing. Food and Cane apparel vendors. A Canes Only College game day stage where they interview former players and toast classes and teams. Setting should be tropical, differing the U from any college before us.

We got to have a global plan not just a staff and good facilities.

These stats validate what I always say. The Miami job is and always will be a great place to come in and win big quickly. Don't wine to me about facilities and fan bases. The way the ACC coastal is set up, a good Miami coach should always be one game (ACC Championship) from being in the final 4.

Or we could do both. I'm hoping Richt can get Miami to keep spending now that he's here. Personally, I think an indoor practice facility is silly, but kids like them so it would be helpful to have one.

We shouldn't use the amount of talent in Miami as an excuse to fall farther behind with regards to facilities. I expect Richt to win with what we have, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be getting more.

Captures it perfectly....we always say these services are out to sell subscriptions, it may not be that they misevakuate Miami talent, but they have to show some diversity to get a broad subscription base. If that were my job I would highlight the top 20 or so guys down here and move on. It's a great problem to have as a canes fan, you just need a coach who can sort trough the next 50 guys who the media doesn't spend much time on.

Has the star system gotten a little more accurate in regards to South Florida players the last few years with the proliferation of money being sunk into recruiting and people who basically see recruiting as its own sport? Most of the guys you mentioned got their star rating 6 or 7 years ago or longer.

Off the top of my head... John miller, Traveon Henry, Deatrick Nichols (?), Fabian Moreau, steve ishamel, skai moore, rashad fenton, al harris jr., and macgarret kings were all composite 3*.
 
IMO missing out on "under the radar" 3 stars has not been Miami's problem.

Miami's problem is all the 4/5 star local kids we've let get away. Imagine where we would be with Dalvin Cook, Amari Cooper, Teddy Bridgewater, Alex Collins, Calvin Ridley, etc

But that's not even the biggest issue. The BIG issue for Miami has been absolutely HORRIBLE play at the line of scrimmage.

Jimmy and Butch were defensive linemen as players, and so they understood what a good o-line and d-line look like. That used to be our biggest strength. We haven't been truly elite there in many years.

Unfortunately South Florida doesn't produce elite DT's and OL, so we have to be able to identify and recruit the best of the best at those positions from outside our local area.

That's been our biggest struggle and there is no guarantee coach Richt can get it corrected

Good question. I don't think so. Louisville and Marshall built their programs off those guys.

South Florida is producing more and more players every year. Now you see QBs, OL and TE going to the league. The gap between South Florida and the rest of the country is getting wider. The star rankings can't catch up because there are too many players.

It's getting wider between every state not named Georgia. Ga has been putting out a bunch of talent behind Florida as well

Getting those players is what separates 8-4 teams to 11-1, 12-0 playoff contenders.

We know this part. The problem was Goldens theory was a$$ backwards. He thought getting the 4-5*s and supplementing them with 3* kids from camps and from the Northeast was the blueprint when all he had to do was supplement a kid like Amari Cooper with a kid like Herb Waters and have them push each other to the death. Dumb a$$ Golden said he had room for only one. Smh.

Its all about stars in this day and age of cfb how many miami 3* have won a cfb title in the last 15 years? ... Stars matter!! Bottom line
 
I will agree on we have always excelled at getting good 3* we always got beat for 5* in miami bowden owned butch and everyone else down here when it came to getting 5*
 
And lastly what wins in any level of football is the trenches ol and dl and unfortunately the development of them in s fla isnt that great so we have to hit on these players outside s fla because those guys are what wins games

So true..We hardly ever got a 5*..But we had better coaches to push the 2*/3* into becoming productive...A top ten recruiting class was almost prohibited....
