I got into it at the stadium with a methmouth about this, I was obviously a little over the top and it was just me and 1 other Cane in my section so I was yelling "Bro, they CANNOT play Tom Petty right now, this **** is EMBARRASSING!" and some lady turns around and says "You are SO disrespectful!!". I said why?? I'm a Red Sox fan, and they play that stupid *** Sweet Caroline at the end of the Top of the 8th inning, which OK, but sometimes they're losing 14-1 to the Yankees and it's like alright we don't HAVE to do this every single game, right?

She wasn't trying to hear it, LOL. She goes "I've been coming to gator games since I was 7 years old, this is a tradition!" I said you've been doing this for like 3 years, relax. Tom Petty didn't even like UiF when he was alive. She didn't like that very much hahahahahah.

A "tradition".

For their "favorite son of Gainesville", UiF waited to honor him until AFTER HE DIED.

They started playing that song in October 2017. They haven't even been doing that "tradition" for seven years yet...
