A Lot of Bad and a Little Good

I get it and don’t begrudge anyone for having negative feelings about last night.

The most concerning, and hopefully most fixable issues last night were staff decisions. The last 20 seconds of the first half, the FG, the holding call (which I understand is debatable), and some others were head scratchers.

But I am taking this as a positive overall. First and foremost, that’s not a bad Wake team. They look like a middle of the road ACC team. They have some guys no doubt and appear to have a pretty good leader in their coach. Winning is tough. Winning on the road is tougher. And winning on the road in an ACC prime time matchup with a somewhat depleted roster while putting guys in high leverage situations they have limited experience in is a good thing. I remind the high end talent hockey team I coach. Not all wins or goals are 10’s, but like women, they all count.

Obviously the key moving forward is getting healthy. The Central team we have up next is brutally bad as in a step or so above FAMU. Clemson in two weeks is obviously massive. But there’s a lot of correctable issues to handle prior to along with a well placed bye week the week following.
We won and that’s all that matters but im not hearing it on Wake. Any other team in the Top 8 or so plays like that against a team like Wake and we are clowning them. Again we won and that’s all that matters but no way no how that winning on the road at Wake ****** Forest is tough. Especially if we are supposed to be title contenders.

- Defense has 3 of its better defenders out and Heatherman had his guys locked TF in. Absolutely saved the season early. Blitzed from all over the field, with 5 different players, and when it failed it was because the blitzer whiffed, not the blitz call.

- Best game by Wilson to date, very consistent and problematic for Wake. If that level of play can be relied upon, across the entire D, I’d inch our ceiling up a little.

Now I’m going to slam it right tf down.

- Dawson needs to file a police report, because someone stole his family jewels and he let everyone know it. That man coached out of spite, I won’t believe anything different. He’s way to smart too not even attempt to have a target beyond the LOS for three straight drives, when he had a profound position advantage, and are one score away from the game ending. I’m ******* ****ed at how cowardly he called the second half. Absolutely disgusted.

- I’m not sorry, this OL is an awful pairing with this run scheme. You cannot run power with this interior set, I don’t care how much you believe in it. Stretch the **** ball, their DT is getting through anyway. You can’t win games with a first down efficiency rating of “flaming dog ****”.

- Also, one of two things is true: either 4 has regressed in his ability to pickup rushers, OR, this will shock you, THE INTERIOR CANT PICK UP THEIR ASSIGNMENTS TO SAVE THEIR LIVES.

- Mario peed down his leg, twice. First time was at half, second was that OBNOXIOUS FG kick. You go for it or punt. Theres no other option. You’re still only two scores up IF HE MAKES IT. Awful.

- Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. I’m crying man, the injuries.

- I have a theory on what happened to Mensah, but I’m not Thanos and in love with Lady Death. If nothing else, Dawson must have gotten into his head and threatened to emasculate Mensah like the jewel thief did to him.

- WHERE IS COOPER

Was this a win? I don’t really know how to answer that, but we scored more than them. Which is always good.
Heatherman was blitzing way too much. The DL was getting pressure better when it was just 4. With the blitz the ball was getting out so fast. Great job by Wake’s QB throwing hot. Our OL is *** and it’s 65 he’s really bad at G and if no one can beat him out we’re ****ed. IMO we should just go with size there idc just being a bigger guy would help for sure

Maybe, maybe not. I seem to recall the great Jeremiah Smith dropping some critical passes just last week in Austin.

🤷
I’ll take the bet that if we keep leaving opposing offensive players as the season goes and and the comp eventually gets better, we will pay dearly for it.

Their D coordinator started to dictate to our O during the second half. Load the box sim fronts, you have to respect the possibility of blitz so you get it out quick to screens. If it works, genius
You have to have tendency breakers and counters to their counters.

I know I’m not breaking news here but our interior OL is playing poorly. Teams are doing what Indiana did to us. You have to know that if a Dlineman is running away from you, some one else is coming from somewhere else

68 is playing poorly as well

Need the CBs back quick bc #3 needs to be the nickel. #0 is ***
Agree, 0 is game. They are just putting him in bad positions. Big hitter, good coverage but he shouldn’t be one on one with the opposing number 1 wr

Not a bad player but with our injuries, he is playing in spots that don’t suit him

Agree to disagree and could care less about anyone dogging anyone. Barring an injury plague, Wake is going to win 8 games.

Oh no doubt, the injuries to the stars affected them. But you had multiple chances to just get a first down and put the game away, and you relied on power runs for a yard and throws behind the LOS. Thats losing football.
I said it yesterday, in tough moments, Hethermans mentality is coach to win. Dawson mentality is coach not to lose.

Guards and center are TINY compared to last 3 years.

Its unacceptable that they didnt portal guys in.

Their hubris has resulted in the worst O line in recent memory. All bc they want to play the guys they recruited.

And this run scheme will be the worst its ever been bc they refuse to adapt.

And now guys will begin to get injured bc of missed assignments.

Mensah needs to find his balls and tell these coaches that changes need to be made.
If Mensah was hurt and Dawson was trying to scheme him “easy” plays, than that should be all that Mirabel and Mario need to know to make changes on the OL.

The kick is indefensible. Made absolutely no sense. Shades of the Cheney run against GT a few years ago.

I've forgiven Mario for the past......but that was an absolutely HORRIFIC coaching sequence.

You choose to go all out conservative on the playcalling to run the clock and you're in good field position. You're already up by two scores....the logical thing to do there was punt and try to pin them deep.

That was mind bogglingly bad. Hopefully they learn from it.

I disagree , I hear your point but at the same time getting your kicker game time
Reps is also important, if we block better he hits the kick
Imo.

Also wtf is with Damari and his thinking on punt return? Like he’s legit sabotaging the punt return unit.

Disappearance of Cooper is puzzling. If Toney is down you’d assume Mensah would resort to his old security blanket. Instead, he’s looking to Lofton. Lol

The unfortunate reality is after 3 games AND before our tougher opponents.

We are a 9 win team tops. Hate to say it.

This team is seriously not better than last year. Even with a really good QB.

We must heal up and make schematic adjustments. Even then I don't see a deep playoff run. Our best will be 10 wins after a bowl game.

Aside from ND, where are these losses coming from ?

Everyone saw the issues. **** people were freaking out last year too so I'm not surprised at the sky is falling crowd now. It's week 3 of a manageable schedule we need to get healthy and the staff has to make changes. They've shown the ability to adjust last year lets see what happens every win doesn't has to be pretty
