A Lot of Bad and a Little Good

Need the CBs back quick bc #3 needs to be the nickel. #0 is ***
Agree, 0 is game. They are just putting him in bad positions. Big hitter, good coverage but he shouldn’t be one on one with the opposing number 1 wr

Not a bad player but with our injuries, he is playing in spots that don’t suit him
This is what happens when 2 starting elite DBs are out with injury. They probably only trust 0, 3 and 24 right now in coverage.

I probably will blame heathermans play calls more than anything. At one point I thought he ran 8 nickel blitzes in a row. It was so often Wake was just expecting it lol. Idky he blitzed so much thought when the 4 were rushing they did fine

Left this game with 3 red flags that most were already aware of. We needed to see it against decent competition.

1. Interior OL is the weakness of this offense and if it doesn’t get fixed we’re going to have some problems this year.

2. Dawson & Mario decisions with play calling and situational management. Both of them they are going to have to recognize that this offense is more finesse than power. If they especially Mario digs his heels in the sand and refuses to recognize this then it is going to get exposed against better teams. Dawson has epic stretches of ingenuity like the first half and other stretches like last night in the 2nd half where it feels like a first time OC having no idea what is going on. I think 2 things happened with Mensah. He got hurt and lost faith in the interior OL which both caused him to appear rattled. Probably more so the OL than an injury. Pressure up the middle from the opposing front 7 is the hardest thing for a QB to deal with.

3. I’m not going to put an indictment on the defense when our 2 best corners are out. However, poor tackling is a liability and they need to fix that immediately. We are not getting much pressure with 3 or 4 like last year and we knew we were going to have a drop off losing the best edge duo in the country. I have faith in Heatherman to figure things out.

Overall elite first half & abysmal second half specifically on offense. Great to get out of there with a win when in years past we would have probably lost this one. The team saw adversity last night and it is good they did so they can know areas they need to get better with. I don’t know if we have what it takes to win 6 this year but I trust the staff and players to get better and learn from what we saw tonight.

We faced some adversity, and we won. I think we’ll be better for it. Sometimes a game like this humbles you a bit and you lock in. I’m not gonna pretend like I’m not concerned at all about anything…I am. But some adversity and still winning by 13 can be a positive.

It’s a long year. We are winning this ******* league. Just keep getting better. And no more weekday games, ever.
Agreed. I’m hoping the small G experiment is over. Put the mass in and let them learn. I really don’t think it could get worse.

- Defense has 3 of its better defenders out and Heatherman had his guys locked TF in. Absolutely saved the season early. Blitzed from all over the field, with 5 different players, and when it failed it was because the blitzer whiffed, not the blitz call.

- Best game by Wilson to date, very consistent and problematic for Wake. If that level of play can be relied upon, across the entire D, I’d inch our ceiling up a little.

Now I’m going to slam it right tf down.

- Dawson needs to file a police report, because someone stole his family jewels and he let everyone know it. That man coached out of spite, I won’t believe anything different. He’s way to smart too not even attempt to have a target beyond the LOS for three straight drives, when he had a profound position advantage, and are one score away from the game ending. I’m ******* ****ed at how cowardly he called the second half. Absolutely disgusted.

- I’m not sorry, this OL is an awful pairing with this run scheme. You cannot run power with this interior set, I don’t care how much you believe in it. Stretch the **** ball, their DT is getting through anyway. You can’t win games with a first down efficiency rating of “flaming dog ****”.

- Also, one of two things is true: either 4 has regressed in his ability to pickup rushers, OR, this will shock you, THE INTERIOR CANT PICK UP THEIR ASSIGNMENTS TO SAVE THEIR LIVES.

- Mario peed down his leg, twice. First time was at half, second was that OBNOXIOUS FG kick. You go for it or punt. Theres no other option. You’re still only two scores up IF HE MAKES IT. Awful.

- Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. I’m crying man, the injuries.

- I have a theory on what happened to Mensah, but I’m not Thanos and in love with Lady Death. If nothing else, Dawson must have gotten into his head and threatened to emasculate Mensah like the jewel thief did to him.

- WHERE IS COOPER

Was this a win? I don’t really know how to answer that, but we scored more than them. Which is always good.

Spot on for all takes. Mensah got injured that’s my thought on him. Then you have Mali, Fletcher and Marty out and things got way out of whack. Pringle also is injured so he was down to RB5 true freshman to finish the game.

SJ couldn’t block anyone and your QB is hurt. It got ugly quick.

If mali and Fletcher are out against Clemson it’s going to be a rough day. Still you would think there is enough talent to get a 1st down. The play calling was really bad at times.
Idk Clemson is pretty bad.

I think he blitzed so much because he does not trust we can get to the QB with 4 quick enough and he did not want to leave out reserve DBs in coverage too long.
Yea I get that but it was clearly not working and wake was eating it up. Or maybe at least hide it. Was just frustrating to watch is all

As everyone has said the interior OL is a huge concern. Injuries derailed the second half but playcalling was horrible. DL showed up when it counted but the scheme behind them is too soft. Shades of FSU from last year. Get SJ out of here already. Put anyone banged up on ice until Clemson.

These KIDZ are just employees there are no more student athletes. It’s a pro team that did their job in the first half and just went through the motions in the second half. They don’t take the field wanting to contribute to the bragging rights of the fans, alumni etc. they play for themselves.

This is pretty much how I see it. Only things I would add is:
1. There was some completely ****** tackling out there. Like on the punt return that was called back.
2. How many times will we have to watch Damari fucc up on punt return before we pull him off that unit?
3.

I was disappointed when we were dominating them and they were doing cheap shot on us, that we did some unsportsmanlike back. Have to be better than that

The injuries to the specific players are problematic.

Because we lost our top two corners we can’t have Fitz playing safety. JJ is playing the entire game literally. And Thornton is playing passing downs. Where he is barbecue chicken.

Damari brown is bad. He’s too heavy and his tackling is good not great. So not sure where his value is.

We need to get to our bye week undefeated and get healthy and the coaches need to self scout a few areas:

The OL. SJ is bad. Not only is he small so the ceiling is low but he is mentally not good. He’s awful. Reminds me of the horrible guys we had before Mario.

Can Omar play passing downs? No imo. Who’s next up? Portis?

Can mo and smith play at the same time? My opinion is no. Get Pruitt on there. He hits and runs

Isn’t this part of Mario’s coaching style? Takes his foot off the accelerator after building a big lead, and then plays to hang on for the victory. Isn’t this what happened last year against ND?

One thing I don’t see being discussed. Why did Mario not take a timeout to avoid the runoff before halftime? Hsd all the momentum and needed to go for it and really put the game away. Instead ran the offense on late and then took the timeout. Made it look like he had no idea what was going on.

Gotta keep things interesting. Unless it’s FAMU.
