Lost my oldest son Sunday morning. I made him and his brothers Canes/Dolphins fans before they had a choice—but he always stuck with both teams. I apologized to them over the years that I did that before they were old enough to exercise free will; that the best teams from my era had gotten behind the pendulum swing of theirs. But they didn't care—it was a family thing. Cut some slack to the Clemson fan at the only ACC Title game appearance of their lifetime; he's the father-in-law of my youngest, didn't gloat too much (said he was scared we would have jumped him), and bought the tickets—that photo machine had a tough time with the Miami green on his shirt.

He played small college ball like I did out in the KCAC in Kansas. Forever proud of the man he became. You fathers out there—hug your kids, and tell them you love them. I was fortunate that was the last thing we would ever say to each other.

Go Canes!

My sincerest and deepest condolences for your loss @Silver King. No parent should have to bury their children. May our prayers and kind thoughts give you the smallest bit of relief. May time quickly heal the pain, let the love from us strangers shoulder a bit of the burden, and let his memories soothe your soul.
