A few tidbits

Why can’t McCloud be Trent Harris?
Trent had an explosive first step and was essentially a pass rush specialist. I think McCloud will be the opposite.

I see them using McCloud as more of a 4i-tech guy. Play stout against the run, maintain the edge, play the C-gap. Kind of how we used Chickallo here.

I could be wrong (obviously), but his lack of explosiveness & strength as a 30 year old make me think this is the best way to use him. Engage the OT and clear up space for the LB or Striker to make the play.

No. If blades is healthy he’s one of the top 4.

Dunson and maybe Clarke get pt though.

makes sense. The real question is how quickly do the 2022 kids pass up Clarke/dunson/balom/Harrell.

I could see Harrell moving to safety, maybe striker , that’s jmo. He’s stiff but physical. But 22 is bringing in some dogs with a lot of free spots to fight for. We could easily lose the entire secondary. Four cb’s and two safeties.

There was five scouts at our first practice , which is crazy. That’s the most we’ve had around here in awhile. You know why ? Because there’s a bunch of talent, sorry to break some mopes hearts. There could be 10-14 kids drafted in this draft , most being in the middle rounds but still. There’s plenty of NFL talent on this roster. I could see a few going in the first 2-3 rounds.

In spring I said Mccloud was flashing being at his natural spot of de, i wouldn’t be shocked if he started beside Johnson or at the very least getting a bunch of pt. He was always a de , even in hs. I’ve posted multiple times thats where he should be . From his size , frame and speed. He lacked fluidity wnd acceleration to be a Lb.

Speaking of mccloud he’ll be part of a biography on three current players. Zion is another and maybe LT is the third but i can’t remember lol.

Lastly keep an eye on Elijah Robert’s , he’s a guy to watch making a jump. He’s expected to get a lot of pt.
What about the LB

I’m not buying that CIS narrative. We missed Willis more, at DT.

Had Díaz recruited LB at a respectable level, Shaq wouldn’t be missed.
Not even close…
That’s just how bad the drop off has been since quarterman been gone at linebacker. It was a drop off when willis left but it wasn’t anywhere near as bad when shaq left.

There’s no denying lb recruiting has been an issue since he’s been here. Shaq , Mccloud and Pink was coming before manny , he lucked into those guys. It is what it is.
I don’t need to tell you this but you know how difficult it is NOT to find LB’s at the University of Miami? That **** grows on tress in Miami.

Willis was the best player I’ve seen here in I don’t know how long. That dude was a monster , just look at the d rankings his one year starting. He ate two and sometimes three blocks, he was a monster. Shaq was more valuable because he was here four years but the numbers and play of the d was dramatically better Willis‘s one year. Shaq and the lb’s included. Everyone was better because of Gerald. That being said a lot of us warned people about the huge hole left by shaq. He was a really good college lb.

Shaq covered up so much , from mistakes by other players or bad calls by the staff. People sleep on that dude. His loss hurt bad. Blake would’ve looked a lot better with him here.

I agree on Shaq that he was our defensive MVP and covered up so much. But he couldn't cover for Baker. Remember that we lost to FIU and La Tech with Shaq on the team in 2019. And while Enos was primarily responsible for the failed season, Baker deserved equal blame for how miserably he managed the defense that year, too ... with Shaq.

I agree with this 100%.. Willis was special and that D was great.
and after Shaq we had Jaquan the eraser back there .. Red too

I still Remember in 2017 McCloud was working the notre dame oline by rushing the qb which was littered with talent. Defintiely might be a better fit for him, he’s a good pass rusher

Agree Brock. 2017 McCloud, when he was allowed to hit the hole and act like a rush end out of the LB position, flashed in many games. Then they moved him to striker ... striker??!! His career here has been bungled. I put more on Manny and Baker than on the kid himself. He is what he is, a DE as Cribby says or a 3-4. LB who should be rushing.

I think he's going to be good. Should have been my other hot take, as I also think Pope and Ivey will have solid if not very good years.

Don't mean to thread hijack. But why is Willis struggling to land in the NFL? I am baffled.
