9/3 Practice Thread

Look......the OL blocking was atrocious but Coley did them ZERO favors with his retarded play calling. How about some down field passing on 1st down? Run out of 4 and 5 wide sets? The most unimaginative play calling I've ever seen.

Braxton Berrios, on what #Canes O can improve: "You name it."

Has anyone else felt the jersey color thing was ***? It's like pop warner little kid stuff. They treat our players like little boys and they play that way. I highly doubt kids from Carol city and Hialeah and Newark NJ take that ish seriously. It's corny as ****.

I rewatched 1st half, Hertelou was an animal as was Courtel Jenkins. Best DT play we've had in Golden's tenure easily.

Perryman was fantastic too. Chickillo and Kamalu were both good also. Louisville had a veteran OL too, 4 returning starters.

If we were playing a 4-3 base and had Hertelou and Jenkins manning the middle....Well one can dream I guess.

This is the **** that makes me think either these guys are too dumb or too stubborn to make changes.

Golden's shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic right now. None of this matters except to the extent it hastens his losing the team.

Man, feeling like crap reading all this stuff the last few days. Tired of the colored jersey BS too. Man I love my Canes, the last decade has been rough.

C Shane McDermott: "I'm not faulting Brad at all. We didn't protect him." Said there's "a pit in our stomachs.

I can care less what the players are saying at this point. Unless we are going to get the real Duke feelings, don't bother. This **** falls on the coaches. Those kids were not afraid or intimidated. They were not put in a place to succeed.

No I thought there was something to it, in keeping the kids accountable. However, this is like the NCAA argument, coaches can leave yet players are handcuffed. The staff failed us big time on Monday and they did last year as well. Some of us wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but that **** on Monday was ridiculous!!!

D'Onofrio on #Canes DT Jenkins, Heurtelou "They showed up. Courtel split a double first play of his career, made a play."

We could have shut Petrino out on offense if we had a somewhat competent DC. Not joking. We missed our opportunity at a truly dominant defensive performance. The DL did exactly what we have been told for years that the goal was. They controlled things up front and were disruptive.

Still got guys behind them, outnumbering the offense two to one, covering ****ing nobody.

Shutting out Petrino is a very difficult feat. Had we had an even half way competent offense, we would have buried them early. We left a LOT of points on the field. To have TWO turnovers inside their 10, and to come away with 3 points was simply pathetic. We convert those like any normal team would have, and that game would have been a totally different affair.

Thats exactly what I'm getting at. Petrino, even though he is walking into a difficult situation especially with Parker and Dyer out, just puts up points. Maybe shutout is extreme, but we should have shut them down. The part that unnerves me to no end is how easy we make the other QB make his reads. I remember the ND game in particular when it all started for me. We just make everything so ******* easy for young QBs it's ******* staggering

Heurtelou needs to be wearing a ***king diamond and platinum encrusted jersey

That kid is going to make a ton of money. This ***king staff lucks out and grabs an ELITE DT and doesn't know what the **** to do with him

He played wrll but elite is a bit too much... Too be fair that Louisvilke squad may only be a 7 or 8 win team... Hurt did good but in no way is he elite. These shirts are becoming pointless because a kid like Duke gave his all... You cant punish him for the short-comings of everyone else.

Never seen him struggle like that. Worst part for me is he had no choice- they stacked the box, Coley still said run. I don't get it.

D'Onofrio said #Canes defense played 9 linemen, 9 defensive backs and 5 linebackers vs. #Louisville

D'Onofrio praised play of Chickillo, Kamalu (played the best he's played), nose tackles. Heurtelou 36 snaps. Jenkins 26 snaps. #UM

The black jersey thing has been around for a LONG time. Nebraska actually made it famous, with their top defensive players getting "black" jerseys in practice. A lot of teams do things like this. Its a motivational tool for the players.

Its a way for coaches to subtly tell players if they are doing better, worse, or average without having to sit there and grade their effort from day to day to each one of them in detail. If you lose your black shirt, you know you were f*cking up and not doing what they expect of you. If you picked one up, the opposite. Does it work on everyone? No, but it can serve as a good measuring stick for individual players to know how the coaches are viewing their effort and performance.

If Golden is smart, he's running a 4-3 defense in practice today. Hertelou and Jenkins at DT in a 4-3 would be a run stuffing machine.

Cortel is gonna be really good. Hopefully he can bring some guys w him.

He should go against all of his beliefs and sell out with an atttacking 4-3 defense and a balls-to-the-wall offensive attack, but he won't. He'll pile drive FAMU with his bullshat schemes and bend, but don't break philosophy and tell us all is well. Lather, rinse, repeat.

No question about it that Courtel and Calvin are both major upgrades. Still need work on DL but you are lying to yourself if you can't admit that you saw a difference at DT.
