9/3 Practice Thread

Expect the LSU vs Miami 2018 opener at AT&T Stadium in North Texas to be finalized in the coming days.

Wonder if LSU is going to make it conditioned about Al still being the HC? Cause if we get a real college HC, we will kick their sorry ***.

Yearby second team is no surprise. Gus is simply a dud. Dude is too slow hitting the hole, and still too upright running. He is not the "big back" we need. His future is at FB anyway if we bring in 2 good RBs in the next recruiting class.

I don't think he's a total waste, I think the kid can still contribute, but as an RB, he's simply not quick enough and does not make the best use of his size for our purposes.

I disagree with Edwards being a fb. As u say he slow to the line, runs high, is angular and not physical. That sounds like the antithesis of a fb. He is a rb all the way and should never play a meaningful snap

These guys don't know how to run any other defense. Don't delude yourself. They took Shannon's players and got a 40+ ranked defense mostly by holding the ball on offense. They're not good defensive coordinators. I don't want to be negative but don't think for one second these guys can fix the problems on defense or offense.

Fair enough, let me rephrase. I think Gus gets MOVED to FB. Wether he actually sees any snaps as a FB, or succeeds there is another issue. But if we bring in 2-3 Rbs this year, Gus isn't going to be at RB for long. IMO he will be moved to FB, or maybe even LB. There doesn't seem to be much reason to keep him at RB after this year, and if he's spiraling down the depth chart into Boliva.

I would have a hard time believing he wouldn't be any better then what we put out there Monday night at FB.

At this point if you buy anything golden is selling you should kill yourself. Nothing is changing.

yeah they're gonna wake up today and overhaul this defense. you know the same one they've been running for 3 years that has yielded 2 of the worst defenses in school history.

I'm sure they've been keeping a super secret awesome defense in their back pocket this whole time. saving it for the right moment

mane, our defense played well against UL. two turnovers, 6 three-and-outs, 4 sacks, 6 TFL. Im not saying we got the 2001 canes lining up back there but it is for sure a huge improvement over last year.

things fell apart for the defense at the end because our offense could not stay on the field

How could you tell? Did u watch our fb's during te game? The OL was so bad the fb couldn't do anything. Fb is the least of our concern. As for Edwards. He doesn't have a fb body IMO. High center of gravity. Doesn't lower pads and doesn't really like contact. Everyone assumed because he is big that he would be thunder to dukes lightning but Edwards doesn't run with that style

They're gonna overhaul a defense that had it best ACC performance in over a season? Yeah anyone thinking that is crazy.

That first half performance should have meant a two score lead.

Because our FB wasn't touching a soul, and looked lost everytime we ran the ball. Just go put a body on someone. That is all a FB needs to do.

If he doesn't want to block, then he can ride the bench, or transfer to FAMU and run wild on the MEAC.

Of course if it was all up to me...

I rewatched 1st half, Hertelou was an animal as was Courtel Jenkins. Best DT play we've had in Golden's tenure easily.

Perryman was fantastic too. Chickillo and Kamalu were both good also. Louisville had a veteran OL too, 4 returning starters.

If we were playing a 4-3 base and had Hertelou and Jenkins manning the middle....Well one can dream I guess.

They started the game with a four man front and was very disruptive for the first two series. Then the wheels started to shake loose when Dino remembered his BFF wants them in a 3-4. Just ridiculous!

This is that dude!!! Hurt-um!!

Hurt Em.webp

Louisville had the ball 55% of the time ran 71 plays and only got 336 yards. They ran for 3.0 and had a total of 4.7. Defense caused two TO's inside the 10. Our offense was inept and obviously STs can't be giving up TDs. I have to think we get the offense going over the next two weeks. Our defense hopefully gets Chad, AQM, and Wyche involved. You can create a storyline for some optimisim going forward until the next grade at Lincoln. Defense has to be feeling good about themselves today.

And that was against the offensive genius Bobby Petrino. I thought we still struggled in the Zone defense, but overall felt the defense was far better and played well enough for us to win by 14 with an average offensive performance.

Heurtelou needs to be wearing a ***king diamond and platinum encrusted jersey

That kid is going to make a ton of money. This ***king staff lucks out and grabs an ELITE DT and doesn't know what the **** to do with him
Not surprised

He was a patty cake champion in HS

Perfect fit for our DL scheme

2nd series they drove 93 yards easily to take a 7-0 lead.

I know this jersey color stuff is stupid and means nothing, but I'll ask the question anyways. Explain to me how there is any justification for taking a starter's jersey away from Duke. The guy had to juke and power through defenders in the backfield most of the night, still managed to get almost 100 yards even though our OL was atrocious and had a big catch negated by the OL. What purpose does it have to strip him of the starter's jersey? To show the team that the entire offense was bad? Give me a break. If you actually want to send a message and strip the OL of their jerseys and actually open the competition, or take Coley's because he played soft, then fine, send that message. But everyone inside and outside the team knows that Duke is going to start and deserves to start, so to act like that guy didn't perform is stupid.

Gus Edwards needs a position change to LB

FB, he was the #1 FB out of high shcool. He can be successful if the OL gives him room to get started but they don't and he stuffed behind the line way too many times.

Gus has to get a lot better and has much to prove, but Duke couldn't do much for Duke, simply put the Offensive Line sucked and the play calling was abominable.

The sad thing is that we probably should be. We actually now have more quality DL than LBs right now. Before Blue and Figs got the boot, maybe we had the horses to run an effective 3-4, but right now, a 4-3 with DP, Grace, and Armbrister, and rotating Pierre, Jenkins, Huert, Kamalu, and Wyche situationally, would be a F*CKING juggernaut in the middle of the line. Have Chick and McCord, with (praying) AQM if he doesn't get the boot, and maybe Chad to get some reps, and you have a **** of a DL rotation.

Agreed. Actually, the best solution would be to slide Chick and OP inside and let AQM and McCord bring the heat off the edges. Chad, Trent, and Jackson could provide depth at DE. If needed I guess Chick could move outside too and play a few snaps.
