85

Any idea what’s holding him back?
Yeah he played well, but we also had our #2 TE out before the game and multiple other offensive starters. He deserved the dogging he got. He was playing like a bich. Good on him for responding.
Lining him up inline and ripping him for missed blocks was dumb. Especially since we’ve known that was a weakness for years. He took heat when it was stupidity or arrogance by the coaches. Him and other players took heat from fans early in the year instead of the people who deserved it.

The coaches obviously have to see it but for the sake of tendencies giving the look that he isnt out there to just catch passes has to play a factor right?

Oh here comes Mallory its a pass. Oh here comes the kid who just blocks its a run. I mean at least now they know we are passing most of the time so they dont have to put him into block.

If you’re flexing him out he’s pretty much a wr. Thats not a giveaway.

Referring to 85, Brantley or both?

Anything holding Brantley back that you’re aware of?

Alright, I'll give him 2 games over his 5-year UM career.

I may have missed it but did they finally say what happened to him? Was it a concussion?
It's definitely going to take some getting used to not knowing what the **** is going on with players.

We know they're hurt but they are listed as having "sustained an injury somewhere on their body." Can't tell if they have turf toe or if they had their forehead gashed open. And then have absolutely no idea about timetables for their return. Are they going to be out for a series? Or, are they out for 2 years because they had to get their head reattached?

Skinner is fine in small sample sizes but too much was on him yesterday when Mallory went out.
There’s also mind boggling decisions being made. They ran a play in the third that was a short pass to Mamarelli, and he caught it tripped all over himself. That’s a olay you run for the Mallory, Arroyo, and Skinner type TEs. Those guys can catch run and make one guy miss. Using the right TE in the right package for the right play also helps. DM is a better blocker than pass catcher. It’s so head scratching to see so called “experts” make some of the calls.

Too many head scratching moments this year by the offensive staff. Way too many.
Yeah but I have been somewhat surprised on the adjustments since first game so the hope is there if the staff can figure what works best. It's not like previous coordinators running their playbook no matter what

Yet until Colbie he was the only guy consistently beating guys or making contested catches. That was the posters point. Yesterday the offense died the second he was hurt. Taking him out eliminates the middle of the field from the pass game. If you don’t believe me go rewatch the game. He gets hurt at the 14:45 point in the scone quarter. We were going up and down the field at that point and then it all stopped .
People aren’t listing to you when you say used properly. He’s not an in-line blocker and gets exposed but when split out and a receiving target he was coming on and making an impact.

You have to know your personnel, for sure, but I don't think Gattis was prepared for having that play ran and having neither Mallory nor Skinner available. I would bet you he wanted that one back as soon as it was ran because you're 100% correct. Dom is a blocking TE. If you're going to run that play, it has to be to 85 or 23.

He was missing blocks on CBs. Two things can be true.

He was tackled by a defender behind the LOS thanks to a missed block.

Agreed. I believe it was the first drive that ended in the FG. TVD seemed to really lock on Young and took a shot to him in the EZ, when Mammarelli was wide open on a drag that would’ve been TD.
The first TD to 8 had Brantley on the drag. I'm not sure I'd say he was open as 19 had the far flats and let him run free as TVD had thrown the ball.

we've been a bad screen pass "blocking" team for a while... adding to it is just dumb personnel choices for those plays as well over several coaching staffs... having smaller WR's block for the bigger "less shifty" WR target. smhhhhh

Well... we did have a few BSmith screens that went for 10-30 yards vs VT. One that showed off 85's ability to EAT a blocker to the ground. HAHA
If you watch the 2nd FG drive, 86 blocked very well. Got enough of the MLB to let franklin run free for 20 yards. Got more than enough of 34 on the 2nd down play in the red zone run but 64/73 got taken out of the play by MLB. Had one of them got to the S, franklin scores or at worst gets a 1st
