8/20 Podcast Debate: Will Carson Beck be better than Cam Ward?

Stats wise or production/record? Cuz those are 2 vastly different things. Cam Ward was extremely special and it’s a **** shame we wasted what he could do and did with 1/3 of our team being out to lunch.

Beck’s got the ‘man in the arena’ mindset though. There’s not much he hasn’t seen or experienced in his time in college football. So it’s not out of the realm of possibilities for him to have a “better” season (playing for the ACC title, playoff berth, etc.)
 
How many more threads are there going to be that ask the same thing in a different way?

Cam Ward was the #1 selection in the 2025 NFL draft and was the BEST QB Miami has had in years...but the DEFENSE was trash!

That's why we ended last season with a freaking dud...period, point blank!

Can Miami have a better win-loss record? I actually believe they will, NOT because Beck is better or a **** upgrade (da heck) but because the overall team - emphasis on the defense - will be better.

I hope that's what Pete meant and I like Pete but can we stop it with the Ward-Beck comparisons?!

Depends how you define better, but Beck could be more consistent (while still playing at a really high level.)

Cam had those great comebacks against VT, Cal, and Duke because he put himself behind with some BAD turnovers...Beck might eliminate the need for those comebacks in the first place

Most people hated George and wanted him benched. Arroyo wasn’t a proven commodity, we knew he had potential though

I think you have a nice replacement by committee for Arroyo with Lofton/Baumann and how they complement each other

And on George I am sky high on Daniels (article coming soon) and believe we upgraded in that spot

Now do I think Beck will be better than Ward?
No.

But with the pieces around him I don’t think pete’s take is too far off the mark here

Sad that Miami had to have comebacks against Cal and Duke. Different than a comeback against a Texas or a Ohio State

Can Beck be “better” than Ward and our offense not be number 1?
