I'm trying to recall: How did our defense look in pre-season last year?
Because if reports said it looked good, then you might have a hint at how unreliable these reports can be.

Game one vs UF the D actually did look good even with Bain out. We fell apart shortly after that.

Why do we think that?

We lost Rivers and Carpenter from last year's line and only replaced with Brockermeyer. Rivers was one of the most underappreciated players here in recent history.

Is the Center position considered such an upgrade that we can backfill for Rivers and be better?

Honest question because is seems like everyone is just assuming development of players already on the roster will actually make us better.

We replaced rivers with our swing tackle from last year who is a ******* behemoth. Another year of McCoy, Cooper and Mauinoga growth. I can see it.

In some level of defense (not much),

Damari Brown wasn’t hurt yet, so Im sure the DBs were better in camp than they were a month into the season. Also, it wasn’t until 6-7 weeks into the season that we really started seeing how the defense couldn’t line up pre snap to save their lives

But overall, I don’t disagree with your overall point

Believe it was USF that exposed the pre snap movement glitch. Just send a guy in motion and either that guy or someone else would miraculously come wide open.
