7-4 Recruiting Chatter

View as article
A few questions:

1) Where do we stand with top tier recruits who have shown interest such as Lorenzo Carter, Lamont Gaillard, Raekwon McMillan and Kentavious Street, Nyles Morgan?

2) Is it possible we can get both Johnnie Dixon and Ermon Lane?

3) Can we/are we still trying to flip Khairi Clark and/or Anthony Moten?

4) Is Sony Michel's recruiting still closed?

5) How real are our chances with Thomas Holley?

6) Are we a lock for either Nigel Bethel II or Chris Lammons or both?

7) Does Shareiff Rhaheed's recent decommitment from LSU mean anything?

8) Where do we stand with Kiy Hester, Kendall Randolph and Quincy Wilson?

Answer what you can, thanks.

Lorenzo Carter- Florida leads
Lamont Gaillard- looks like UGA is the lead
Raekwon McMillan- looks like an SEC/Taint battle
Kentavious Street- nc state leads us in 2nd
Nyles Morgan- SEC battle dont think we are in the running

This might have been the most positive post written ever

Tito must have got it in last night. So this morning, air smells fresher, colors are more vibrant, and UM is getting

Everyone wants to hate on Ice & Luke, but I look it as this.

MNW - Jojo, Smith, Mayes
BTW - Thomas, Harris, Bethel, Jackson.

3 commits on the list and high interest from 4 other prospects. 6/7 or 7/7 out of the two of the best miami high schools is pretty **** good.

Its called history...and have any of these guys signed?? last year at this time we had guys that were LOCKS coming from these schools....you never never trust Harris or Luther...

I like what Pete has to say and WE all can see how the NCAA coming to a close, the coaches with another year to get comfortable with the recruiting process at this level...things are looking up!! Thanks TITO..putting in that work...

BTW..I do think these young men will stay committed...

Luke's only fault is he has said some harsh things on twitter in the past that should have probably been said behind closed doors. The guy clearly pushes for his kids to get recruited by UM. What if some of the complaining Luke and some other coaches did this past year got our staffs attention and that is why we are picking up South Florida recruits much faster this year and offering a lot of guys first. I am not saying it is, but we seem to be doing well at MNW right now.

I can get on board with this, but it still doesn't excuse those coaches from airing dirty laundry. Let's just hope that some in roads were made on what professional courtesy should be expected from both sides.

Jojo Robinson should be coming too.. With Coach Fields, Luke, and Roland at Central Miami will get alot of prospects pushed to us.. Luke is a big reason why Yearby looked at Miami in the first place even before Coley came over he was starting to give UM a hard look..

Great work. What's the latest on Cory Johnson?

We are in the Drivers Seat for Cory Johnson especially with Valentine going public with his commitment. As long as Uncle Jethro doesn't crap the bed on this one.

Cory is really looking forward to going to see Miami and Kentucky but also really want to go see Tenn as well. He knows about all the legendary quarterbacks UM has had and he knows about UM's championships, new facilities and stuff. He doesn't know too much about Tenn. He just knows about Tennessee, because it’s a legendary school, that plays in the SEC. he is quoted as saying “I mean, you can’t know SEC football without knowing Tenn.” He also likes the lack of depth at Tenn on the dline. Johnson wants to touch base with Tennessee he said; "It's Tennessee. You can't turn down Tennessee without going to check it out. That's my opinion, anyway. And I really want to check out Arizona State. I really like Arizona State. (read as Free Trip)"

As for Temple he is quoted as saying “I’ve always got to love Temple,” he said. “It’s hard for me to turn down Temple. For one, I’ve got them tattooed on my arm because they gave me my first opportunity (Al Golden that is). I’ve got much love and much respect for the Temple program (Al Golden that is), and my recruiting coach, (running backs) coach (Tyree) Foreman, is there still" but his Head Coach is at Miami.

The only visits that Johnson knows for sure is coming up are Miami and Kentucky. He will be going to Syracuse sometime in August.

In talking about UM Johnson says Miami "it's the tradition" that stands out to him and how UM has the most players in the league. The name Miami pulls weight by itself. Where as with Kentucky he speaks with the D-line coach weekly, so they are building a bond which he really likes (cough cough Jethro do your job).

Johnson also notes that The thing about him is that he has never played the same position twice. Last year was his first time ever playing NT full time at Juco. In high school, he always changed positions on the D-line playing in multiple fronts. I'm getting recruited at D-tackle but all of the schools say they can use me as a stand-up end or a nose guard, too depending on the formation.

But unfortunately do to how ASA schedules their semesters and apparently Johnson needing to wrap up 1 or 2 classes he will finish his summer classes early October which puts him makes him unable to transfer for fall 2013, but rather a DEC 2013 enrollee.

Go Canes!
