5 Walk-ons go on Scholarship

We just added 5 people, each with multiple years of eligibility left, to scholarship. If these guys were seniors it wouldn't matter, but this is 1 RS junior and 4 RS sophomores. None of them outside of Price will ever see meaningful playing time. We have enough passengers on this roster already.

We had an opportunity for the next class to be 17-20 kids to bring us to 85. We'll still get to 85 next year, but we wont be able to sign as many players now.

Major league stupid stuff here.

These are one year scholarships that these kids are getting because we’re under the limit and they don’t count towards the initial counters. Our fans really don’t understand how this stuff works at all. This has ZERO impact on who we can sign next season.

No, they all have multiple years of eligibility. So Manny is going to make them transfer? These kids couldn't get scholarships anywhere else, why would they leave they might not get picked up in the portal? Seems pretty ****** to give a kid a scholarship, then kick them off the team before they get their degree.

You are assuming something that never happens, zero attrition from the portal, grad transfers and guys being shown the door because they just aren't good enough.

We also don't know how close some of these walk ons are to graduation. Could be that two or three may only need one year to wrap up their degrees. Mutliple years of eligibility doesn't mean they are going to take two or more years to graduate.

It's a massive stretch to claim this gesture will hamstring us down the road.

They’re walk-ons, one. Walk-ons know that they’re being brought on scholarship for that year and our scholarships are renewable. Regardless, we’re capped at 25 initial counters each year. These scholarships have NO effect on those initial counters. Just having 85 total roster spots means nothing. We’re limited to 25 counters each cycle. Your math about slots is wrong because you’re not looking at the ICs, you’re just coming up with a number about how many total scholarships we have, which couldn’t be any more wrong of a way to look at this. We will have a much larger than 14 person class next year. It’ll definitely be another full/nearly full class. I don’t know what to tell you.

each scholarship is renewable yearly. these kids dont effect our ICs. well never be at 85 bc kids will always transfer or leave early so these kids dont matter. for christ sakes, our fans are retarded

Good question here: are staff members eligible to be banned? Or are they protected by indelible rights where they can say dumb **** because not all posters are created equal?

Hold up, scholarships are renewed year to year? This is brand new information! Thanks for imparting your wisdom upon me. That's great, so when these 4 ...checks notes... sophomores are done this year are they just gonna transfer? Because you can't go back to being a walk-on after you are put on scholarship. They either need to graduate, or leave.

Even if another 5 guys transfer out, we are still giving away spots that could go to recruits, or someone with talent for this next recruiting class.
