4th Quarter Program

Interested to see what Gattis can get out of Redding , dudes a physical specimen
Some people are giving up on him already giving up on him but he's one of the most intriguing kids on offense
I can't see him making an impact.

You have to imagine that he's behind Keyshawn, Brinson, Restrepo, Ladson, Brashard, George.
Can't see how he's really behind with a brand new coaching staff unless you mean behind in getting in game reps, if that's the case yes. I view him as an X receiver so he's directly competing against Ladson & Brinson and neither are proven as well. Competition will be furious and let the best rise to the top.

after every coach we hear about this perceived huge lift in strength and conditioning ever since the shannon era

hopefully they get it right this time. Just goes to show how bad it was under shannon. I remember some players saying they weren't even lifting throughout a good portion of the year
Yeah, while I’m sure things are better now, I take these comments with a grain of salt. If each of these programs was really better than the last, we’d have the most amazing S&C program in the history of S&C.

Off-season 'Top Performers' going into Spring Football

By GABY URRUTIA 14 hours ago

Since Mario Cristobal arrived at his alma mater in December, he has restructured multiple aspects of the Hurricanes football program.

The most apparent at this point is the off-season strength program led by Aaron Feld, who has been a major addition for Miami after spending time at both Oregon and Georgia before following Cristobal to Coral Gables.
Feld and Cristobal brought with them the 4th Quarter Program, which is a staple of the Alabama strength and conditioning program.

"That’s the game-changer," Cristobal said on Nationa Signing Day. "If I learned anything during Tuscaloosa time, the 4th quarter program plays a ginormous, a massive role in the way guys develop because it changes the way that you move, the way you come out of your hips, the way you can accelerate and come out of difficult situations, balance and body control. Even a guy that just got here or has to walk-on, even that guy has to get better to earn a role on the team."
InsideTheU has checked in with some sources to gather some top performers of the winter workout sessions and the 4th Quarter Program.

Here is who stood out.

Offensive Alpha Dog - Tyler Van Dyke

It’s a good sign when your star quarterback is also drawing rave reviews from his performance and effort in the off-season program. Tyler Van Dyke is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and has a legitimate argument to be considered the best returner in the ACC alongside Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman. Van Dyke is the face of Miami football and for him leading the pack in the weight room and in the 4th Quarter Program is a big deal. D’Eriq King came in a couple of years ago and quickly won the locker room because of his work ethic. His efforts over the last two years reinvented Miami’s quarterback room and this is proof of the new standard expected from that group.

Defensive Alpha Dog - Jahfari Harvey

Miami’s pass rush took a step back in 2021, so Jahfari Harvey taking the next step in his career would be big. It’s good to know that a source considers Harvey a top defensive standout of the off-season. A source said Harvey “makes everything look easy.” That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering Harvey’s athletic profile had the folks at 247Sports higher on him than the rest of the industry. He came out of the Class of 2019 as the No. 10 weak-side defensive end after totaling 18.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks as a senior.

The fourth-year junior can significantly improve Miami’s defense by carrying over his off-season work and turning that into the most productive season of his career as a veteran at a prime position.

Top Performers on Offense

The Quarterbacks - InsideTheU is told that both Jake Garcia and true freshman Jacurri Brown have impressed during the 4th Quarter Program and in winter workouts. Reinventing the room has been significant when looking towards the future of the program and the guys set to lead it in the future seem to be fully bought in.

TE Will Mallory - The fifth-year senior was in the conversation to be the ‘Alpha Dog’ on offense according to a source. Mallory came back to Miami after an up and down 2021 and certainly goes into the season with a chance to clean things up and raise his draft stock. Mallory is also a veteran voice in the program so to see him backing up his standing with a strong off-season is a good sign.

TE Elijah Arroyo - Another tight end that drew some praise from the off-season program and one who was recently recognized a top performer of the week. Arroyo came to Miami as a highly ranked player at his position and showed flashes as a sophomore. Had Mallory decided to go pro, this would be Arroyo’s job. Having a veteran next to him for another year won’t hurt as he continues to develop. A strong off-season program performance is a good sign of development.

WR Dazalin Worsham - InsideTheU has now heard from multiple sources that Dazalin Worsham could be in line to take the next step. Worsham hasn’t had a ton of run in orange and green since arriving in the Class of 2020, but Miami is losing a couple of highly productive receivers in Charleston Rambo and Mike Harley, and Worsham could be a name to keep in mind.

WR Xavier Restrepo - Since arriving at UM, everyone around the program has raved about Xavier Restrepo and his work ethic. He was singled out as a top performer for his work in the weight room and in the 4th Quarter Program. The third-year sophomore has a chance to slide into the starting slot role in 2021.

OL Ryan Rodriguez - Miami signed a trio of South Florida offensive linemen in the Class of 2021. One who could be prepared to take the next step is Ryan Rodriguez, who projects as a center. Rodriguez didn’t travel in 2021 because he was in the process of reshaping his body, so hearing his name on Friday was a pleasant surprise.

Top Performers on Defense

DL Elijah Roberts - Like Mallory, Elijah Roberts also drew potential “Alpha Dog” honors on the defensive side of the ball per a source. The third-year sophomore, who certainly flashed in 2021, was described as a “dog” and a guy who could play a few different positions for the Hurricanes next fall. It’s likely he mostly stays on the outside and comes off the edge.
Upperclassmen Linebackers - Both Waynmon Steed and Corey Flagg, who were the primary starters at linebacker in 2021, we’re a couple of more top performers from the 4th Quarter Program. Flagg and Steed were the team's two leading tacklers last year, but both could be more productive - especially Flagg as a middle linebacker. If those two continue to progress that could be a good sign.

S Avantae Williams - Let’s not forget that Avantae Williams was in line to start last year before his incident which resulted in him being away from the team for an extended period of time. Williams was considered a top performer this off-season by a couple of sources, which is notable considering he was considered the No. 2 safety in America coming out of the Class of 2020. He is one of the most talented players on the Hurricanes roster.

DB Al Blades Jr. - Despite missing a lot of time after being diagnosed with Myocarditis in December 2020, Al Blades Jr. has continued to progress and is now considered a full participant. Aside from being available again, the Miami legacy is drawing praise from some around the program for his efforts this off-season. That earned him Top Performers honors after the first week of the 4th Quarter Program.

CB DJ Ivey - Fifth-year senior DJ Ivey was named a Top Performer by Miami after the second week of the 4th Quarter Program and is another who was singled out. Ivey has had an up and down Miami career, but there is no doubt that he is one of the more physically impressive-looking guys in the secondary. He will have a chance to win a starting job before Miami kicks things off in September.

A Couple of Freshmen Impressing

Cyrus Moss and Wesley Bissainthe are a couple of true freshmen who will have a chance to compete for playing time this fall. Both play at positions without many established returners.

Moss, who has drawn comparisons to Jason Taylor, will now be coached by the NFL Hall of Famer. Some within the program believe that Moss could potentially be a year away from being physically ready for the college game, but could see him getting some run as a situational pass rusher.

Bissainthe “moves really well” according to a source. There will be a chance for the Miami Central product to compete over the course of the spring, summer, and fall, but it is good to hear that he’s not falling behind in workouts as an early enrollee.
Other Notable Performers

DE Chantz Williams - A top performer in Week 2 and a guy who could take a leap in 2022.
S James Williams - Mentioned by a source to be a standout.
S Brian Balom - Came off of a neck injury and seems to be performing well.
WR Michael Redding III - Named a Top Performer in 3.
OL Justice Oluwaseun - Also named a Top Performer in Week 3.
CB Te'Cory Couch - Has added weight this off-season.

Nice to hear about Worsham specifically

I can't see him making an impact.

You have to imagine that he's behind Keyshawn, Brinson, Restrepo, Ladson, Brashard, George.
He got on the field before all those guys before he was injured excluding ladson.. Also dude is a plus athlete and hard worker..

He was getting real game reps as early as the Louisville game his true freshman year and he before TVD blew up that was HIS GUY.. What was his injury again, do you think it took him all the way out of any PT?

Love hearing Bissainthe as one of the true freshmen to pop early. We desperately need him. Hope he's at least as impactful as Pickney 2016 (I think his potential is higher).

Here's to D'Eriq King. That young man changed the dynamics in the QB room. Once he's done with professional football, I hope he is hired back as a GA here.

Great to hear the young men are stepping up and doing so well in the 4th Quarter program. They appear to have taken well to the program and have a willingness to want to be developed and encouraged to shine. Great news for how they’ll play in the Fall.

Daz is an interesting one.

I believe his initial recruiter at Bana was Gattis. He committed early on too which means they really saw something they liked about him. Gattis is definitely familiar w him.

He might be the best route runner on the team along w Xavier.

Lots of good news in this post. I won't go on a rant about a bunch of guys I'm excited about. Except Ryan Rodrigues who I had wrote off due to size and weight new staff going after. Would have been a great article if Larry Seymore was mentioned positively. OL is priority #1. I know know we got players every where else and a new staff that will get those boys right.

I think King really helped our QB room on how to prepare and be leaders. Once he's done in the NFL we need to hire him off field.

He can also help with recruiting Texas.

Really appreciate you @Cryptical Envelopment, good looking out!

Pleasantly surprised to see Worsham listed. Redding as well. I’m still not completely sold on our WR core just yet. We need ALL OF THEM to step up now. Don’t foresee any of them have a Rambo type season, but if everyone can make a solid contribution and impact, then we can be more deadly.

Redding always been a hard worker dude used to always post with Restrepo putting in work.. He got on field early his freshman season so he mustve flashed some talent with work ethic.. He was injured last year so he fell out of mind of canes fans but he was making noise early
