Besides Jimmy being just average when it comes to throwing the ball. He can only do so much on the sidelines but; Plus the Chiefs was the one of the few teams to negate Derrick Henry as well. I thought the Chiefs would win;If you think Shanahan lost the Falcons the super bowl or his play calling lost this game, you don't know football. They lead the league in rushing & play action throws. He ran his offense. The last two drives, they just didn't execute & their defense faltered. Two straight double digit blown leads is called an anomaly. Justin Verlander isn't trash bc he's been hit hard in the postseason. Stuff happens.
The end of the first half just gets worse when you realize that what Shanahan was so deathly afraid of was quickly going 3 and out and then going into halftime down 17-10.
QB sucksQB and HC played scared.
You wrote a short novel I didn't read. Cliff notes next timeBesides Jimmy being just average when it comes to throwing the ball. He can only do so much on the sidelines but; Plus the Chiefs was the one of the few teams to negate Derrick Henry as well. I thought the Chiefs would win;
Just last AFC champ game the Chiefs barely lost, and some blamed the linebacker for jumping offside. Saying they had as much of a shot to win last years super bowl. They pretty much have the same team plus the fact Patrick Mahomes - having his only & full year starting in 2019.. A better defense plus a better or more experienced Patrick Mahomes, in my opinion.
Given the fact its widely known at least by the media that first time super bowl players have early game jitters. Andy Reid has always been able to call an offense to elevate the personal dating back to his first head coaching job in Philly; He was able to adjust what plays to call, as it showed with a touchdown in the first quarter, than three touchdowns in the fourth to win the game. The head coaches that are able to maintain their position with one team can evaluate in the middle of the game.
Bill Belichick and even Marvin Lewis when he was with Cincy until it was known the bengals owner never bothers trying to compete with other owners during free agency... Kyle Shanahan has shown he has no idea how to readjust during the course of a game like the super bowl, and scout for that matter [Jimmy Garoppolo]. Bill Belichick took the risk of trading Jimmy, & trusted that Tom Brady wouldn't void his contract; Brady had no receivers to compete with any decent passing threat, no Antonio Brown & Josh Gordon left with no experienced players to catch the ball.
Its partly due to the owners being old and crusty lards who only own any professional team only because the have billions of dollars. Being a fan of the Jets, and the Giants ownership / management are just as bad; Eli Manning before he retired the talk was how the main/only reason he might make the hall of fame is because he won two super bowls. Dave Gettleman picks Jones because he reminded him of Eli - talent wise. Then hires the Patriots wide receiver coach for the head coach gig, after none of the Patriots receivers showed any improvement during the season. All the other former coordinator to assistant coaches have the same results
shanahan did the exact same thing he did against new england with a smaller lead. dude is an idiot. two straight blown double-digit super bowl leads as oc and hc when running the ball in the fourth quarter would've iced both games.
Sure that's the explanation, but it's still the wrong decision. You can't curl up into the fetal position because what inevitably awaits you on defense. With 1:30 left and 2 TOs in the half your entire playbook is open, and you had been averaging 7.9 YPP. You've also just witnessed back to back playoff games where the Chiefs had overcome double digit deficits, why on earth are you feeling comfortable at 10-10? In today's NFL you're a fool with that mentality. That's exactly what happened. He changed strategy based on the opponent. It was pure ineptitude of Buck and Aikman not to understand it or emphasize it. Shanahan didn't want to give Kansas City another possession. Against any other team he quickly calls the time out.
I'll point to two possessions nobody else is mentioning, the first San Francisco possession of either half. You don't beat the Mahomes Chiefs with field goals. The 49ers had it rolling on both of those possessions yet had to settle for 3. It seemed inevitable it would come back to burn them, especially when it happened twice and not merely once.
Regardless, stop the 3rd and 15 play and they likely win. That would have been an interesting decision for Andy Reid. He probably punts. Bosa and Armstead tried a stunt on that 3rd and 15 play. Bosa got penetration but was pushed slightly to the right, meaning he didn't really pressure Mahomes. Armstead had the angle but wasn't quick or explosive enough to get there in time.
Garropolo had happy feet all game. He was connecting on the passes but many of them were not in the proper spot and he was bailed out by his receivers and tight end. Kansas City in the 4th quarter applied pressure up the middle, not unlike what they did against Tannehill two weeks ago. Tannehill started to look very ordinary and so did Garropolo.
These days you need a freak quarterback in the NFL. And the Chiefs are a major candidate to threaten an unbeaten season one of these years when Mahomes is in his prime and healthy. I won't be surprised if they take it deep into next season unbeaten. This result is going to give them an incredible surge of confidence. It doesn't take much of anything for Mahomes to put up 31+ points. That's what every opponent is dealing with and it's the reason it's so laughable to rationalize that we'll fortify the roster piece by piece and then draft the quarterback later. Lotsa luck with that stupidity.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be fine. Why so much negativity towards him.QB sucks
I like Kyle ...Jimmy is scared to make a play just like he was scares to keep crushing that **** joint bc he has rabbit ears
KC had limited possessions because a couple factors.kc had limited possessions because the gameplan was to run them to death and control the clock (which was working incredibly well). then he went big brain and decided to throw more on second downs with a 2-possession lead in the fourth quarter when they were getting 5-6 yards/rush on first downs.
and that doesn't even mention the unbelievably poor clock/timeout management. the first half one was inexcusable but has already been talked to death, but almost as bad was not calling one on the 4th down try with the play clock winding down. the refs should have called it because it was egregious, but shanahan never should've left it up to the refs and an obviously-frazzled jimmy g.
It’s not feeling comfortable..but 10-10 and getting the ball to start the half your in prime position for the game to unfold the way you want it. And that’s a possession by possession game..and your D ended up getting the ball back and u hit a Big play that got brought back..I don’t think the 49ers sat on the ball in either half the way ppl are making it seem. KC just special man. You weren’t going to win a shootout. San Fran needed to win with a 24-20 type score and the almost pulled it offSure that's the explanation, but it's still the wrong decision. What is the word after swallow with the ***?"Here you go" = suck a white mans meat and then go tweet away how you are stupid
Do you need beer goggles to munch on some hairy nutty meat balls too? Do you get drunk as **** and blackout with or without vomit around after you black out and hope to swallow ***...
@jw410 = Go sneak in a high school boys locker room, just don't rip to shreds that play boy
The only reason they hit a big play that got brought back was because KC called a TO after their second down run play and forced their hand. The plan for Kyle was to run out the clock, KC just interfered with it.It’s not feeling comfortable..but 10-10 and getting the ball to start the half your in prime position for the game to unfold the way you want it. And still lost...
Marv LevyShanahan's big game coaching can be summarized by the old cliche of "Playing not to lose".
I’m saying tho..look at the field position. Look at the way the game was unfolding up until that point. You get the ball back to start the half. Your QB had just thrown a ill advised pick earlier. Understand who you are and how the game was going. It was a 10-10 ballgame. San Fran was not gonna win this game if it became a shootout, as shown in the 4th quarter. That’s not the way they play. KC can generate chunk plays no matter down or distance. 49ers no. All in all San Fran has the type of ball game they wantedThe only reason they hit a big play that got brought back was because KC called a TO after their second down run play and forced their hand. The plan for Kyle was to run out the clock, KC just interfered with it.
Also, Kyle's direct quote was that he felt comfortable with the score line.
