49ers did all of that complaining about our field...

They played the exact way they needed too. Executed the exact formula to beat the Chiefs. Until the last 8 minutes. The chiefs Defense stepped up huge. If a team is gonna score 3 fourth quarter tubs the way KC did to erase a 10 point deficit sometimes u just gotta tip your cap to them
Agree. Though let's not forget that all Jimmy G had to do was throw one 40yd'ish pass to a guy who had 4 steps on his defender and they're probably getting fitted for rings this morning.

I don’t understand how these coaches change their offensive philosophies to play it safe and expect the game to continue in the same manner. Time and time again you see teams take their foot off of the gas peddle and it bites them in the butt by the end of the game. SF had it rolling and played it safe with two runs in the same 3 and out and KC just had to implement a blitz on 3rd down, and the momentum flipped. If the offense played the same (or took the route of the hurry up that you saw in the first half that took KC by surprise), SF would have scored again and it wild have been all but over. Up until that point, I had SF winning and Garropolo taking MVP honors.

Instead, 3 and out, momentum shift, enter Mahomes and KC wins. It just appears that playing it safe turns out to be the less safe option at the end of the day.

Agreed............ playing it safe takes the edge out of the game. Players know it, and so do fans......
In a Super Bowl.......................Coaches need to let it rip , and go for plays that teams do not expect....
That is the suspense and drama.
This game was OK, but not as exciting............. in edge of your seat strategy and plays.

Apparently you haven't seen the Chiefs play ball. They always make runs at the opponent. Once Reid and Mahomes figure out the D they start scoring at will. They were always gonna make a run. SF had to keep scoring for 60 minutes. They didn't. Played scared and lost

Two plays killed San Fran. First Just like Miami against NC 4th and 17 SF had 3rd and 15 and gave up a 44 yard completion. KC scored and took control plus SF got away from the run game. Second Garropollo had a man open at the 5 to take lead back and over threw him.

If you think Shanahan lost the Falcons the super bowl or his play calling lost this game, you don't know football. They lead the league in rushing & play action throws. He ran his offense. The last two drives, they just didn't execute & their defense faltered. Two straight double digit blown leads is called an anomaly. Justin Verlander isn't trash bc he's been hit hard in the postseason. Stuff happens.
Exactly. You can’t sit in a 10 pt lead with 15 and those weapons with 8 minutes left in a game. Ask Tennessee. San Fran continued to run their offense. Which is run on first down, mix in PAs on 2nd down and get into comfortable 3rd downs. That D ran out of gas.

1st quarter KC had 2 possessions
2nd quarter KC had 2 possessions
3rd quarter KC had 2 possessions
4th quarter KC had 4 possessions scored on 3

49ers had to limit KC possessions. They did that until the end

Shanahan's big game coaching can be summarized by the old cliche of "Playing not to lose".
How’s he play not to lose in that game? Or ATL btw. Matt Ryan took a couple dumb sacks. Last night San Fran tried to keep running their offense. There was 8 minutes left up by 10..u can’t sit on that lead with that offense. A lot of Monday coaching going on. They ran their offense. KC defense made some plays

Can you imagine the backlash "IF" they went hurry up, and still had the three and out? We would all be criticizing that saying they left too much time on the clock and thats the reason KC got back into it.

He should have taken the TO before half, no argument there (my opinion). If JimmyG hadn't overthrown Sanders, this wouldn't even be a thread. That's football. Blaming it all on the coach is just ridiculous though.

This is just ridiculous. You put it all on Garoppolo "overthrowing Sanders".

No, no, and NO.

In the first half, Idiot Shanahan should have called a timeout on third down prior to the punt. There was (or could have been) a minute and a half left, and when you have the ball, you have the ability to control the clock via first downs, out-of-bounds, and incomplete passes/downing the ball. Instead, he let 30 seconds run off the clock, about a third of the remaining time. ****, you could even see John Lynch up in the booth making the TO hand signal.

Then, they ran a couple of plays with no effort towards clock stoppage BEFORE calling timeout with under 30 seconds. IDIOTIC. They had THREE timeouts, does Shanahan get a cash bonus for saving first-half timeouts?

The end of the first half was just a sad display of a pvssy approach combined with horrible clock management. A minute and a half is PLENTY of time to score a TD when you have 2 or 3 timeouts and great offensive talent.

I agree with this, for sure. I was yelling at my TV the same thing re the timeout. Made no sense to me. But it's not mutually exclusive with the other point that if Jimmy G makes a throw that most FCS QBs probably make, chances are high the 9ers are SB champions this morning.

First Half Kyle Shanahan: Jimmy G cannot be trusted.

Second Half Kyle Shanahan: Jimmy G is the greatest QB in our league.

Another thing I will never understand is how with 2:30 left in the game and all 3 timeouts remaining, Shanahan calls one run play and 6 straight passing plays. Your entire playbook is open in that scenario! And yet he treated it like there was one minute with one TO remaining. Horrendous play calling.

Only big game Kyle could lose to big game Andy. He blew the last 1:45 of the first half and then went conservative in the 4th. On 3rd and 10 why within around 2 to go why would you take your homerun shot there in a 24-20 game?
Pretty embarrassing when GM is in his suite signaling to call timeout & HC wants to run out clock on 1st half.
