THIS. Give him 2 mil plus incentives to prove himself and 2 mil to hire a killer staff. Can you imagine who Butch Davis will get for that amount of money?? Miami will DOMINATE!!

You are clueless. $4M is nothing for a coach these days. All of the NFL guys Jackson, Pagano, Chud are going to be near $4m. Herman, Schiano and Fuentes in that neighborhood as well.

Just so everyone knows, 4 million per year base salary would be around the 14th highest base salary in college football.

Agreed. The common theme was we always went the cheap way, and those that look at the big picture were concerned that this would be the issue once Golden was eventually fired. If this is all true, I'm excited. It shows the board is finally adapting rather then living off our blueprint from 80's and 90's in terms of costs.
 
Sounds like it will be Butch or Schiano which is what I wanted all along. Those two will kill it if they can get a top staff! Herman is intriguing, but it sounds like they don't want a mid-major coach and I get that after hiring Al and almost hiring Edsall. As much as I hate Mario, he would be a good assistant!

Les Miles: $4.3 mm

Briles: $4.2 mm
Richt: $4.0 Mm
Malzahn: $4.1 mm
Ferentz: $4.0 MM
Mullen: $4.0 mm

That's the list. FYI - Patterson is making $3.9 and Dantonio $3.6. Those are big name coaches.

NFL coaches all make $4.0 mm and up for the most part.

this. Fuente and Herman have very high market value right now. Question is, what other big time programs want them? Could they be pining for top tier FBS jobs? I guess, but they are long ways away from that - FSU, Bama, OSU, MSU, Mich, Clemson, etc all have coaches firmly entrenched. The only big time program I can them holding out for is Texas.

Next tier? USCe, USCw, MD, Miami, VT (soon), etc. USCw will probably go in another direction so that leaves Miami in a great spot to land these guys but not overpay. If you were one of these coaches, would you want to get 4-4.5m from USCe or take less and go to Miami? Not even close, imo. Yes, Herman and Fuente have the market value, but Miami represents the best opportunity for them.
 
What does Gary Patterson make? 4M may get his ears perked up. He wont have to worry about a league tie and being shut out of the playoffs with a U on his visor.

makes me sick seeing FSU pay 5 mil for a coach while we have dwelled in the abyss for so many years.
 
Remember 4 Million in Florida, is 4 Million. There are no state income taxes. Some states have 4-7%
 
This is encouraging news, I hope that it is the truth because we can certainly be a player for top guys at that price point.
