4 First Round Picks this Upcoming Draft?

He’s a very good run defender . He graded out highly at both pass rush and run defense. He’s not some finesse pass rushing gimmick guy. He’s the total package. Violent hands with a great punch , unlimited move set and played an entire season at DT because he’s a team guy. On top of that an endless motor.

Yes he has an injury past and is older but guys like him doesn’t come along in the mid to late first round. Lastly he got double teamed much more than people think. There’s coaches out there that feared him as much or more than Bain coming off the edge. A lot of our pass rush wins was because AM was aligned inside causing havoc and also helping the edge guys get home. Albeit a blitz or rush. Bain and Mesidor both needed each other. It’s the equivalent of having two scorers / playmakers on the court in basketball versus one.
I think people are quick to paint him in the “injured old so he must be a high motor guy” category

Then you see him drop that 3 yard drop step crossover like Tim Hardaway back in the day

People still have a hard time accepting how good he was and why

As a Fins fan seeing Bain mocked to the Jets
there are those laughing but this is a legit nightmare scenario for us. 🤦‍♂️

I follow the draft stuff pretty closely. There has been a hard shift of Mesidor and more and more mocks have him late first round. Mostly to contending teams that want max production during his rookie contract window. Several picks for the Pats

It's the smarter (albeit colder) way to look at the draft.

If you're drafting in the second half of the 1st round, banking on a younger player to develop through 2 contracts isn't all it's cracked up to be. For a 25 year old, you get him during his peak athletic years on a relatively cheap contract (4 year rookie deal with a 5th year team option). If he underperforms, it's a max 4 year investment. If he overperforms, you have potentially 5 years of cheap productivity at a value position. If he's killing it after year 5 you let him hit free agency and enjoy a free compensatory draft pick while some other team overpays for his declining years. If he wants to restructure after year 3, you have the leverage (and can still potentially trade the player for assets).

Basically the opposite of what the dolfinas do, so you know it's the right play.

Yes but age is still a very valid criticism of his draft prospects...
If he was 21 would he be solidified top 10 and closer to Bain? Where is the cutoff for age being a valid justification? Top 15? op 32? Top 50? ...
I agree if he was 21 he’d be a top pick possibly top 10..I’m just saying it’s not impossible for him to go in the first round still despite his age. A Late pick by a contender is the most likely scenario should he go in the first. He won’t make it past the 2nd
