3rd Down Pass Rush

As expected McCord and AQM are our 3rd down DE/OLB pass Rush specialist.

What are your expectations this season for these two in terms of sacks? I know it's not all about sacks as much as it is about getting pressure and collapsing the pocket.

None the Less I'd be happy with 6 apiece from these two. And AQM working his way into a every-down DE.

well that would be pretty amazing considering I think we had 13 from the whole team last year

How do we know that? Did Golden say something about it?

McCord did mention in the player media interviews that him and AQM were opposite of each other, and that AQM was playing his position he played last year. I am sure Gilbert figures in that rotation somewhere if healthy.

I know Donofrio has run all DE line (4 DE) before. To get the passrush generated. Always been a fan of that when the giants ran it. Of course they were stacked at DE and we tried with shayon and chick, lol... We arent there yet but give it time and imagine AQM, McCord, Chad Thomas, and whoever else you want.

If McCord and AQM are our 3rd down rushers, it will be better than lasy year but we will still struggle in that area. McCord has one more year before he can affect a game, imo, and AQM is just a true freshman.

Exactly. Which is why I think people may be misinterpreting mccord's interview. He says that he and AQM are playing DE on third down. They could be second string for all we know, he doesn't say.

We'll see these guys on third and long, but not every time it's 3rd and 8. Sometimes they'll be out there, sometimes it'll be someone else. They'll be in the rotation.
 
Pass rush? What is this pass rush of which you speak? I was watching some highlights from the early 90s. I cried.

We had to be the worst 3rd and ten team in the history of football. It was automatic conversion, it seemed.

God, I pray we have a 3rd down pass rush this year.

Always amazed me. 3rd and long, no pass rush, and yet nobody was covering anyone either, and the easy 15 yard QB run was always open. It was like the entire defense did a Gata flop on 3rd downs.

I'm sure McCord is more comfortable dropping into coverage having practiced at linebacker since the spring. Perhaps swap Gaines for AQM at linebacker.
 
Our nickel LBs will be Perryman and Cornelius.

That's assuming we run nickel this season.

Si, si senor.

Nothing I like watching more than a 3rd and 7 converted by the other team. Last year, I was literally hoping for a fumbled snap, a wild throw, someone tripping or just a drop.
