Miami and coach Mario Cristobal received significant news when three-star offensive tackle commit Joel Ervin informed them of his commitment to the Hurricanes on March 29. He officially shut down his recruitment and shared his reasons here on CanesInSight.

"I feel comfortable with where I’m at. I feel like there’s no need to get out and explore. I found my home, and I stand firm on that, and the main reason is the impact of Coach Mirabal and Cristobal. The offensive line room is special for...

I know he is underrated but at this point, I think some of these fringe takes might be smart to secure their spots... Especially at OL. Great decision by him! 🙌🏼

i dont think he was a fringe take. They had him as a top priority.

I think the recruiting services were late to c atching up on him **** his weight is still wrong on them. Kid is 320 solidly right now before his sr sz with good movement skills. We usually dont have these types withing 2 hours of our campus. When we do we have to make em a priority

I almost went back and edited the fringe comment. I was speaking from outside looking in. "The industry". Our staff knows their stuff and relies on their own eyes.

Point was OL is the one position where if a guy wants to play games, he might find himself on outside looking in bc of the success we've had in this class. "If you're looking, we're looking", so to speak. Moot point. Glad he's shutting it down.

Ervin is easily 320 and I would say more like 330. Great part of what should be an historic OL class! Congrats to him on shutting it down. It was the only choice here really.

The offensive line room is special for those guys, Coach Mirabal. Their message was just to keep being me and keep working, and they just made me feel very welcomed, feel at home."

Sebastian Font also had a chat with him about his recruitment being shut down, and here is what Joel had to say:

“I feel like my recruitment is shut down. I'm pulling Miami. It's been welcomed with open arms. It's been amazing. I couldn't wish for any better school. Coach Cristobal and Coach Mirabal, I mean, their coaching is just out the window. It blows my mind.”
"
He confirmed with CanesInSight that he will not be visiting any more schools.

Joel stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 280 pounds, playing as an offensive tackle from Fort Myers, Florida. He is currently ranked as the 745th player in the 2026 class, the 63rd offensive lineman, and the 100th player in Florida.

As a member of the Fort Myers offensive line, he contributed to a total of 1,759 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns over 12 games.

Joel has received 28 offers from various schools, including the Hurricanes, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Colorado, and North Carolina.

Like I said before we about to have a big *** ol . Need get us a little scat back to go with our big backs . They want be able to find.him until he’s 5 yards past the los 😂

No way he only weighs 280. He looks to be every bit of 320+.
yea he hasnt been 280 since like tenth grade it seems . kid is 320 plus..and a steal.
Our runt tackle is 6'7 1/2 280-285.

I like the big ol class because if we can hold on to most it allows us to use the portal elsewhere. Depending how this szn goes we may only need one portal ol and that would have to be an elite bookend if we dont get progress from Samson/kINSLER

I don't think he's been 280 since about 6th grade...

Totally agree with you. Also it gives guys like Congdon and some others a potential red shirt year and if they stick around we can also recruit more elsewhere as well as portal elsewhere. Great luxury to have.
