247 has lost their **** mind

LSU had a great QB and one of the best WR corps ever. Solid OL, DL top LBs and DBs. It’s a different game now but I don’t think we have the firepower to score with them. Same with Bama but Burrow looks like a future HOFer.

I get that the modern game is more high scoring but LSU’s 2019 defense is the worst of any team on the list. They finished 32nd in scoring defense. They gave up over 35 points four times, including one game of 41. Vandy dropped 38 on them. They did average 48 points on offense and their average margin was 26.

The 2001 Miami team played in a less offense friendly era but still averaged 42.7 points while only surrendering 9.8 so they had a higher margin of victory. Also, having a dominant defense allowed them to take their foot off the gas against weaker opponents, whereas LSU had to score 50 every week or risk losing.

I’d give LSU the edge at QB and WR but every other position group on offense and defense goes to Miami.

Correct List:

1. Miami - 2001
2. LSU - 2019
3. USC - 2004
4. Clemson - 2018
5. Bama - 2020
6. Texas - 2005
7. Bama - 2012
8. FSU- 2013
9. Tennessee -1998
10. FSU - 1999

Only undefeated champs in my top 10. I think 1-3 should be in everybody's top 3 and #1 should be no brainer. 4-10 is very debatable. 2016 Clemson, 2017 Bama, and 2021 Georgia were all 1 loss teams that were incredible in my opinion and probably better than 2000 Oklahoma and 2010 Auburn who were undefeated.
Even though they didn't win the NC the 2000 UM team could beat more than half of these teams.

1) Recency bias will always be a key component in these types of lists.

2) Having Larry Coker as head coach is always going to hurt. The Canes should have been winning games 60-13, instead they were winning 30-13. Coker shut down the offense far too often in 2001. He did it in the opener at Penn State and in the BCS title game against Nebraska. We should have hung 70 on Nebraska in that game.
My Dad talked to an ex student of his that walked on to that Penn State team, and the kid told him "they took mercy on us, they could have named the score"

Only team that comes close to the 01 Canes IMO is 2019 LSU. That team was absolutely stacked. Other than that, I can't think of a team that comes close.

pure BS...
even our 80's Champ teams would beat up on that finesse LSU squad
some of ya'll, man.....

247 does this because they get millions of impressions from the Miami fanbase when they bring up the 2001 team.

& guess what? It works every time, the short bus guys on twitter can’t help but respond and give them the clicks and shares they need to keep paying ivins, gaby and the boys to put out mid content.

So hard to compare teams over different eras. The game has changed so much from 2001 to 2020.

Comparing 2001 Canes to early 80's NC teams who were barely passing for over 1,000 yds the entire season doesn't really make sense either.

2020 Alabama is being slept on a bit here. 2001 & 2019 LSU had some close games. Only 1 team got within 16 points of 2020 Alabama (beat Florida by 6)

But I'll always have 2001 Canes as the best

Yeah Coker was soft

If the question is at QB..I mean I hate to be THAT guy..Craig Krenzel gave us a game at QB…t 2019 LSU would given any past team a run with Joe B, chase, Jefferson etc. a lot of fire power..got a ton of respect for Dorsey..but if we keeping it 💯 that hypothetical game comes down to a 4th Quarter..ppl here betting against Joe B and those weapons?? My heart definitely says canes roll..but ****tttt Joe b chase and Jefferson all are on HOF trajectories

Bull****.

2001 Miami defense allowed 9.75 points per game.
2020 Bama defense allowed 19.45 points per game.

Bama allowed both Ole Miss and Florida to score > 45 points (48, 46)
Miami allowed only 3 teams to score more than 20 (Pitt 21, FSU 27, VT 24)

2001 Miami > 2020 Bama.
