I think we need to land one of MJC/Jacobs in addition to Woodard (and obviously lose no one) to ensure a top 3 class. ND still has some big fish left ie Henderson, Sesay, and Parks. OU also still has Sparrow and a couple more left so us 3 will likely shape up 2-4, the order is TBD though. No one is catching TAMU, as they still are likely to land another 5* in Simien.

*UF is a wildcard too if they were to pull off one of Brewster/Royal or both (unlikely).

Just noticed that the Uf has a top 3 overall commit that is a IOL. Has any IOL ever been that highly rated? His comp has to be Larry Brown, right?

You dont need the #1 class to win it all, even in old style recruiting, you simply need to be above the threshold. We are way above it. And by the way, getting these great high school classes will set us up well when the inevitable changes come to the portal especially.

Agreed. If we get Woodard and they get Sparrow, we’ll remain ahead of OU. OU has two other trench 4 stars they are still pursuing as well. That’d give them the temporary advantage going into the regular szn.

ND may be tuff to beat no matter what. They just got Sesay and they are the leader for Parks, Roman Igwebuike, Henderson, and Tyler Alexander according to Wiltfong. We also know they are about to secure Julius Jones Jr’s commitment too.


Although ND felt like they were in 2nd place for Simien heading into his OV this weekend, Wiltfong said it’s actually LSU that is surging towards & closing the gap between them — and A&M for the commitment.

Technically, yes. Personally though if OU slightly is ranked ahead of us with like 7+ more commits…. Idc I’m still saying we have a top 3 class.

I really wouldn’t be shocked for UF to finish ahead of us technically too tbh. But I also don’t see why they wouldn’t bring in a class that’s closer to 30+ tbh. They got a new HC why wouldn’t they go for volume as well…

Texas I still feels ends up spending big late and ends up top 6. With how much NIL they have coming off books this yr… yeah they can drop big bags if they choose to. But they did get top classes past couple yrs and hit portal hard… so we will see.

LSU will probably land a few bag seekers late too
 
300 is a great barometer. But i wonder if just shooting for top 5 FR class + top 5 portal class is a better metric to shoot for. Gives you future and immediate impacts.

I doubt the staff measures itself by what a group of internet analysts rates the class, high school or portal.

Your meta point is dead on. We need talent balance across all positions and all stages of development. I expect us to be super picky about portal this season. But the guys we do take will be top tier. I also expect we’ll pick up some late bloomers, late flips and juco guys. Mario will go after talent wherever he can get it.
