Mensah signed a 2 year 8 million contract. To get him out of that deal you would have pay the buyout and then more than 4 million to make it worth his while.

Not worth it.

He went from having a decent OC (Loggins) to a Gattis level dumpster fire in Mike Shula.

I don’t know what Beamer was thinking bringing Mike Shula in to call plays. His putrid offense got him fired at Bama nearly 20 years ago.
 
Whoever it is, they can't be promised anything. don't sleep on nickel or Judd for that matter. Nickel is a winner & Judd has all the measurables you could want. Maybe one of them develops.

Me and @JHallCanes have been driving this train - he’s the dual threat that would take flourish with our line and our wrs. To think he stayed at Cincinnati for just $1.3 is crazy, especially considering what Mateer and Jackson Arnold probably got. I mention those two because they all went to school about 15 minutes from each other in high school.

Who will be the major players we will be against for the top portal QBs?

For sure:
- FSU
- Auburn
- Penn State

Likely:
- LSU - if Van Buren isn’t it
- UF - if they move on from Lagway with new coach
- UNC - they do have NIL $
- Texas - if Arch is told to seek shelter
- GT - not sure how deep the NIL pockets are
- Louisville - I assume Moss is out of eligibility

Wherever Lane ends up Chambliss likely follows so one of these UF or LSU will be off the board.

None of these situations scare me so we should be primed again for one of the top 2 portal QBs

TrumpyCane thinks the biggest ? is if Dawson takes another job (HC) and how fast Mario hires a new OC especially with the new portal window

If we get to the playoffs it could get tricky

This is my biggest concern. It's exactly how we end up stuck with Emory and an OC search that drags well into 2026.

If Dawson gets a chance at HC, it will be as a backfill to someone hired to one of the current HC openings...

... and those could take a while, just from a logistics point of view. Especially true if those teams are bowl bound, where they typically allow a current assistant on staff to coach the bowl game.

The portal window is later and longer. Miami could still be playing if Dawson is HC material when it opens. If we aren’t, I think it could be a blessing and Mario likely has his QB$$$$ lined up along with the next OC.
 
Everyone thinks portal quarterbacks are going to want to run to Miami because of Ward.

What if Carson Beck does not rebound and turn himself back into a first round pick? I don’t mean he goes full TVD, but he doesn’t turn himself back into the first round pick he was thought to be after the 2023 season. he plays OK and at the end of the season he’s looking like a day three pick.

Could 2026 portal candidates look at that and say Miami might not be such a good option, if one of the criteria is for the development for the league?
 
Brendan Sorsby should be our goal. I wanted to bring him in with Ward but he went to Cincy. Mario has a connect there with Satterfield too.
