I don’t see this as a negotiating tactic either. Moreso just a kid competing on his national team for 2nd/3rd place who sees an announcement as a distraction.

LJ Cason is transferring from Michigan with Dusty May leaving, and apparently we are the team early on most connected to him.

Averaged 8.4 points per game playing about 15-20 minutes per game as Michigan's top backup guard, and shot over 40% from 3. He did tear his ACL in February, though, so if he does go to Miami, he will miss a large chunk of the regular season in all likelihood. Could be more of a 2027-28 play depending on his timeline.

One of the best evaluations in college basketball was Dusty locking up LJ to go to FAU and then bringing him with him to Michigan. There are hoopers like him throughout Florida that just need the right coach to believe in em.

Before he left, May was using the state of Florida heavily to build a sustainable powerhouse at Michigan.

I wanted Yaxel on the Heat but I’ll take this as a **** good consolation prize. Kid is a sniper who can shoot off the dribble and really organize an offense.

People who watched Michigan astutely saw that Cason was better than sixth year senior Nimari Burnett who was a 2-way 5* recruit who started 109 consecutive games for Michigan to end his career. He was also better than senior Roddy Gayle (although he was more of a wing than combo guard) and mcdonalds all American trey mckenney.

Despite being a class above trey, he is only a few months older than him. At one point in the tourney last year, i was thinking that his injury was going to prevent Michigan from winning it all but Elliot cadeau’s off-night (scoring/shooting wise) didn’t seem to matter much because of everything else he was doing on the court.


No idea how his recovery is going but if he’s healthy come January; we’re going to win a lot of games in march…………

so I hear that some judge in Nashville has decided the transfer portal is now open till August 10th ? wtf? What is it with these judges and their power trips in college sports ?

Not a power trip; pretty much all college eligibility rules are blatant antitrust violations and always have been. I'm surprised it took this long for the courts to catch on. College athletics desperately needs an antitrust exemption and a collective bargaining agreement.

I agree, They absolutely need an agreement. But that was not her place at that moment. That court case wasn’t about the transfer portal and she added that in. She caught every coach off guard all at once and the college world is a mess as it is.

Antitrust or not I fully agree that the transfer portal should be a condensed period of time and you can only transfer 1x without having to sit a year. The timing of this is very unfortunate and tbh a little inappropriate. She could’ve kept the court ruling about the players eligibility and she didn’t. Maybe not quite a power trip but it should’ve been left alone. Every other judge has and did.

As a fan of the sport itself and as someone who already hates the Wild West of college athletics (yes even if it benefits us at times) it’s not good for the sport as a whole at all. This just adds to it.

Of course, I could be wrong but minutes are already at a premium given the current status of the roster.
 


You have to wonder which schools have an available scholarship along with NIL money for this last round of the transfer portal.
Planning time could be a problem so it will be interesting to see if some of these guys go to a mid major where they can put up some huge numbers.
