& if we get Malik back, i see the top of the ACC as a 3-headed dragon of Duke, Louisville and Miami. UVA doesn’t have enough talent (for now) to keep up in that tier imo.

Apparently Javon Bardwell, who just reclassified to 2026, decommitted from Kansas because Bill Self is bringing Tre White back. White has an exhibit-10 deal with the Heat but isn’t expected to make the team—he was fighting for a 2-way spot.

It's actually insane that there are guys that had fighting chances of making NBA rosters and are now going back to school. Zero chance this is sustainable moving forward.

Have to figure there will be downstream effects if Reneau comes back too

i understand it tho even if they can’t make the money they would’ve made if the NCAA just allowed them to play from the beginning. If you don’t get the 2-way spot you’re cooked. Most teams have 2 of the 3 or all 3 spots allocated already.

Every Team has five training camp invites and even if you get a 2-way, you can be cut for someone else rather easily. They like the guys they have already on 2ways, and usually leave open that 3rd spot to grab a positional need when a starter gets hurt. G-league players only make about 47k w/ housing, travel, and nutrition covered for the 5 months. Then you’re on your own.

dudes can make double that going back to college for a better lifestyle or possibly even 10x+ that even this late in the year depending on how good they are. Another year in college also solidifies your game to get that guaranteed 2-way spot or get drafted, or prepare you for something else in life.

I don’t know if players/agents are thinking like this but NBA Europe starts in October 2027 and NBA expansion starts in October 2028. That’s thirty more NBA roster spots available and 90 or so (I figure these teams will have a lot of international players; not just americans so 90 is a conservative estimate) 6 or 7 figure salaries for NBA adjacent players which will be a much better experience for Americans than normal Euroleague, Asian leagues, Australian, etc.

So an extra year in college will be pivotal for a lotta fringe-guys trying to climb the ladder.

yeah i agree; still, no one can transfer from our team at this point and we have an open roster spot so we should be good to go. We may not know the effects until someone unhappy about playing time leaves next cycle. I thought we had an elite roster before Malik, with him, we are lethal.We’re more talented than last year so hopefully Malik is ready to sacrifice as well.
 
Basically the HS classes of 21 and 22 (more 21 than 22 with this new decision) got heavily screwed over since covid because the classes of 2016 (if they had already redshirted), if not starting w/ the class of ‘17, to class of 2020 were able to get fifth years so they had to compete with/against older players.

Then, after five years of going through that where the covid super seniors are outta eligibility; they now change the rules, which benefited a whole decade of players plus everyone else moving forward, except those two high school classes. So i don’t mind the ‘22 kids (or ‘21 kids who used a redshirt year) returning tbh, more so just mind how dumb the NCAA was for trying to block it outright.
 
College basketball is going to have an abundance of talent for the third straight year in a row.





Lee or Donovan Dent is expected to land with Gonzaga
