2024 Louisville vs ND

Didn’t Louisville have the ball in ND territory with a chance to tie the game with like two minutes left?

Game was a lot closer than it seemed. Louisville with 3 turnovers (almost 4) is what made the difference.

ND defense was very impressive against a very good UL offense, some key turnovers and dropped passes helped. DBs are sticky and tackle well, not a lot of easy throws for UL QB. ND brought a lot of pressure, be interesting if we see the same aggressive attitude with a new DC.

Louisville gave the game away.
ND was literally saved by Leonard's legs last year. Their whole entire offense ran through his running. I just don't see how they flip the switch to a QB who's never thrown a pass and doesn't have that ability despite have a lot to work with.

Louisville outgained Notre Dame 395 to 280
The Cards had 19 1st downs to 11 for the Irish
The Irish were terrible on 3rd down going
2-10 while Louisville went 7-17
Louisville had 264 yds passing to 163 yds for Notre Dame
Rushing stats were basically even with a 131-117 edge to the Cards.
Louisville had 3 turnovers while ND had 2

It was a close matchup that Louisville had every opportunity to win and they would have if not for the 3 turnovers. Shough threw a pick and each team lost 2 fumbles. Leonard was the leading rusher for ND with 52 yds on 13 carries Love had 34 yds on 11 carries.

Looking deeper at that Notre Dame defense, I realized every decent offense they faced gave them serious problems.

- Week 1 on the road at A&M, the game was tied 13-13 at the 2 minute warning.

- The next week, they lost outright, at home, to Northern Illinois

- Few weeks later, they beat Louisville 31-24, in South Bend. They won the game with 11 first downs, 280 yards of total offense, going 2-10 on 3rd down, with 2 turnovers. How? Louisville absolutely shot itself in the foot all day long.

- At USC, the game was tied late in the 4th quarter, and USC threw back to back 100 yard pick sixes.

- Penn State they could have easily lost

To be fair, they did absolutely demolish some good teams in the middle part of the season. They were a very good team. But it's not like they're some juggernaut that can't be challenged. Everyone on this board ***** on our season and says we could've been 8-4....well ND could have just as easily been 8-4 also. They played 8 games, including the playoffs, where they didn't get to 400 yards of offense. Miami played zero such games.

The total on this game has been dropping, and I can see why. I don't expect this to be a shootout, I think if we can get to 24 on them, we have a really good shot to win. And I don't think that's unrealistic with this offense, at home.
