2021 CB Charles Brantley

I like Payton also but we have several similar players on the roster and we haven't used them properly. Patrick Joyner and Sam Brooks are very similar to Payton. He still should get a scholly if we have room.
100% unequivocally disagree and your two examples are entirely missing the mark for Payton's measurables, comps, and projected role on the line. Both Joyner and Brooks are 6'2"-6'3" LB. They may have had their hand on the ground in HS, but Brooks in particular was always a LB recruit. Payton is in that long, lanky rush end role, like Rousseau.

Brooks and Joyner were stand up rush ends add Tyler Johnson to this list). That's the comparison. It's style of play from HS. Nearly identical. Look at Payton's film, and you'll see he's very limited. Pass rush specialist. That's all. It is a valuable skill and one we need even with our current depth. But like I said, I want the kid in the class if we have the numbers. He could develop into a monster in two years of off-season training and development.

I refuse to watch any corner
I still watch them, but you aren't wrong. These CB threads all feel like window shopping with an overdrawn checking account.

Show me a signed LOI and then it'll be worth the time (and even then... Christian Williams... Nigel Bethel...).

I get that they all played the same role in high school. A lot of high schools put their best pass rusher in that role, just like they may put their best athlete on offense at QB. However, Payton's body type and projection is entirely different. Its a faulty comparison because of that.

My comparison is not faulty when you consider I was stating they are similar players coming out of high school in how they played. Their body types are different but that was never in the discussion. But again, I would like to see him in this class but I doubt we will have the room. Some program is going to sign him, put 40 lbs of muscle on him and he'll be a monster we regret not signing.

Brooks has played well he’s young. Joyner is a guy i wouldn’t give up on.

But you can’t teach 6-5 with twitch and rushing ability. You can never have enough pass rushers. To me, you have to take Payton and the corner mentioned here.

True or false
Has the CIS collective watched more film and evaluated more players at the corner back position than the Staff?
I remember Hamp Cheevers, Rashad Fenton, and nearly Trajan Bandy as guys that this board sweared by that the staff didn’t even give a look.

The one we offered and got is probably the worst of all 3

Many more on the list. I made a full roster the other day mostly south Florida kids that came up on this board that the staff didn’t want in recent memory. That roster would blow out our current roster

This post is why I know Miami can be relevant again. Find someone who doesn’t make things more difficult than they need to be when it comes to Coaching staff hires and recruiting(South Florida).

I mean offensively alone... Elijah Moore, Tutu Atwell, and Zay Flowers are 3 of the best in the country. I think people on here would’ve complained about Flowers at first because of his rating but he had good numbers. I don’t think anyone projected the year he’s having.

Moore at Atwell would’ve given us the most explosive offense in the nation and everyone on here wanted both of them.

Hard to complain about what we’ve done at RB. QB the only true misses here are Lamar and Huntley. We could’ve probably won with Richardson if he was developed properly.

All I'll say is Miami has always let real good talent pass them by because they want to play hard ball and trying to compete with the elite teams for recruits... This staff needs to start looking at this board, because guys here find some solid recruits especially at CB.. Brantley should be a must get in this class!! I guess we will see how it goes..

I agree.. So many other names could've been added as well, too many have gone away and shined!! Tutu would've been great here, Tutu get in the portal "then come home to finish it off"...

Flowers was insanely productive on both sides. The coaches must've seen him while scouting the other kids on U-School. Major miss. Here is my blurb on him from 2018:

Zay Flowers- 5’10, 165 (University)- Explosive two-way player who does not get enough attention. Gets off the line quick. Physical tackler and dangerous blitzer. He can be a stud WR but I love him on defense. May be the best football player on team with Kenny McIntosh and Josh Sanguinetti.

Totally agree. We’ve gotta start putting more weight into production at the HS level especially in local kids and Florida kids in general especially at WR and LB. Just like the McFadden kid at Indiana that came from Plant and had 211 tackles and like 40 TFL as a senior.

Measurables are nice but production translates a lot more consistently.

If they can take Flagg from Texas they should’ve been all over McFadden.
