That's a pretty big jump (up 89 spots) for Eskew. Based on that and what others have said in this thread, he's definitely looking like a possible high draft pick. So it seems like it will all come down to what his $ number is. Hopefully he's similar to what Gates and Cecconi wanted

Baseball America 500 is now out, Miami mentions

Current draft eligible players:
McKendry: 124 (up 4)
Veliz: 359 (down 43)

Recruits:
Lugo: 74 (up 2)
Eskew: 163 (new to rankings)
McFarlane: 184 (up 7)
Hall: 228 (down 64)
Diaz: 397 (down 40)

interesting.

all of them, with the exception of McKendry, (because he's and upperclassman, which affects his intentions relative to his ranking),

and Lugo, well, because he's Lugo …..

are probably within the gray zone.

meaning, they could just as easily show up on campus as sign contracts.

my thought is, assuming they are all drafted near their slots, is that if they sign, they probably already know they're not going to college in the fall. those projected rankings just aren't high enough to make it a slam dunk. but I could be wrong, and we'll know soon enough anyways.

It seems like it really comes down to what each kid's signing $ is. For example, Gates was 133 in the BA 500 last year, but wanted $1.1 million, which is early 2nd round slot value.

Really all the top guys we've gotten recently - Gates, Cecconi, Toral, Del Castillo, have been because they reportedly wanted $1 million+. So hopefully kids like Eskew and Hall have similar demands

Amen to that, my friend.

I hope they all ask for $1,000,000,000 dollars!! :D

Is it a legit question to ask a baseball recruit's family how much money they are looking for to turn pro to determine if the kid is likely to go to college?

That is absolutely something that is discussed. MLB teams typically know the answer to that question before they draft any kid.

Does that mean Amditis is likely to return next year?

I would expect him to come back regardless.

I think getting through a full season healthy is the most important thing for him. I think he'll be even better next year (and will still have leverage because of his redshirt).

Baseball America draft reports

Dylan Eskew: 166
Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 185 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Miami
Scouting Report: A lanky, 6-foot-3, 185-pound righthander, Eskew has taken a jump this spring. Last summer, the Miami commit was in the upper 80s and showed good feel to spin his breaking ball, but scouts have been impressed with his uptick during his senior season. His fastball has been up to 93 mph, and he’s pitched more regularly in the low 90s. He’s also shown two distinct breaking balls in a slider and curveball that both look like solid offerings. His delivery is a bit unorthodox, with a long arm action that has significant plunge in the back and crossfiring action in his lower half, but he’s athletic enough to make it work. He hasn’t had any strike-throwing issues this spring, doing well to sync his upper and lower halves. Eskew is a projectable arm who could still add plenty of weight and increase his strength in the future. While he’s has a strong commitment to Miami, he has pitched well enough this spring that some team could draft him in the third or fourth round.

Alex McFarlane: 187
Ht:
6-3 | Wt: 170 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Miami
Scouting Report: A 6-foot-3, 170-pound righthander with plenty of starter traits, McFarlane is something of a polarizing pitching prospect due to the fact that there’s plenty of projecting to do with him and his inconsistencies this spring. From the U.S. Virgin Islands, McFarlane moved this spring and played in Georgia, where scouts saw him pitch in the 87-90 mph range one day and then could see him up to 95 mph in his next outing. He raised a lot of eyebrows last fall at Perfect Game’s Jupiter showcase, where he was up to 94 mph and displayed a plus breaking ball. This spring his secondary stuff has been more pedestrian, although he shows good feel for both a breaking ball and a changeup. There’s natural, sinking life on his fastball, and his arm works well despite some length to his stroke and slight head whack. McFarlane is athletic, and he likely gets that from his parents, who were Olympic athletes in track and taekwondo. Committed to Miami, McFarlane is expected to be a difficult sign. He has plenty of upside if a team wants to be patient and let him continue to refine his pitches while adding strength.

No McKendry in their rankings. Their latest mock draft has Lugo going 33rd.

McKendry should get the fluck outta Dodge. Don't wanna get Johnny Ruiz-ed.

My son plays with him at Sickles. Great, humble kid and top player in Tampa Bay Area. Has 6 HR’s also. MLB scouts are at his house every night when he gets home. Kid loves the U but hearing possible 2/3 round and that might be too much to pass up. Gino and J.D. must be getting nervous since they came up to Tampa the other day.
Dylan Eskew went in the 24th round to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

McKendry, Veliz, Lugo and Mixon are long gone.

Amditis will return unless his father's passing caused excess financial hardship. He will have 8 other 0.300 batters in the lineup and will rake. He was our best batter freshman year prior to the injury.

We should get at least 1 of the 2 pitching phenoms....

Lineup with Van Belle, Cecconi and McMahon is elite. If the 2 freshman pitching phenoms enroll, then you are set up for 2021......

Our batting is the best in the nation at best and top 5 at worst!
