2020 Offense through 5 games

2020 Offensive stats (First 5 games):

- 2,038yds Total Yards
- Averaging 407 yards per game
- Averaging 35.6 points per game
- 13th in Red Zone scoring
- 94% Red Zone scoring percentage
- 21st in the Nation in Total Scoring

- 6/8 on 4th down with 75% 4th down conversion
- 33rd in Rushing, at 4.81 yards per carry, 179yds per game

In comparison to 2019:

Through the first 5 games we gave up 25 sacks & only scored over 30 points once (not indcluding Bethune) in a loss to VA Tech.

On the season we averaged;

- 367 yards per game
- 26.6% on 3rd down
- 52% on 4th down
- 27.8 points per game
- 3.8 yards per carry
- 51 sacks allowed
- 73rd in scoring
- 76th in yards per play
- 120th in Rushing
- 127th in sacks allowed
- 121st in Red Zone scoring

Miami scored over 30 points just TWICE all last year vs FBS opponents, through the first 5 games we've scored over 30 in every game except Clemson. Yes, we did not play perfect football against Pitt, but good teams win ugly & last year at this time we were 3-2 with one of our wins being an FCS opponent.

Last year our early OOC G5 game was vs Central Michigan, we only scored 17 points & barely gained 300yds of total offense.
This year our early OOC G5 game was vs UAB, we scored an easy 31 & gained 495yds of total offense without breaking a sweat.

Last year against Pitt, we only scored 16 points, gained just 208yds of total offense & took a last second TD throw from Jarren in order to beat a team that had only scored 12 points on us that game.
This year we scored a comfortable 31, gained 331yds total offense & had the lead the entire game.

This year we've ran 363 plays on offense thus far & are averaging basically 70 plays per game (69.8).
- If we average 75 plays per game for the remaining 6 we'd be at 813 (888 in a 12 game schedule)
- If we average 80 plays per game for the remaining 6 we'd be at 843 (923 in a 12 game schedule)
- Last year we ran 842 plays in a 12 game schedule

Has our Offense played perfect thus far? Absolutely not. Do they need to improve in several areas, no doubt, especially in Passing offensive output, but the overall point is, we're scoring & we're still moving the ball despite not playing pristine ball. All our offensive issues are very fixable & are not something that warrants the reaction there's been on the board.

Don't forget, this is year ONE for Lashlee, new OL coach & new WR's coach, new QB, new scheme, we've had 2 of our starting OL's miss a game & had our best offensive weapon out in the last game, not to mention there was only 4 practices in Spring (which made it very difficult to do a complete offensive install) & due to the Covid protocols has changed the overall dynamic of how a team goes about week to week with numerous amounts of testing. Does that excuse poor offensive performances, no it doesn't, but these things need to be kept in mind for context of how the season is going on Offense instead just acting as if all things were perfect going into the season.

No Lashlee has not been perfect, but there's been a drastic overreaction by the board after to just 5 games, mind you we're still scoring at a high clip & explosive plays are still being schemed up frequently despite not having a big time #1 WR emerge yet. We're still on pace to have a very productive offensive season with just a slight adjustment in the passing game & the fact we've gotten past the 2 highest ranked Run Defenses & DLines we'll play all year.

Also keep in mind, we don't face a single Defense in the top 30 in Run Defense & only 1 (as of now) in the top 30 in Pass Defense (UNC is 29th vs the Pass & 38th vs Run) on the rest of our schedule, but everyone else we face is in the 40's. So what does that mean? PRODUCTIVITY.

We’re failing forward. Offense had a bad game vs an overall top 10-15 type defense (real NFL talent). We left a ton of yardage and potential points on the field. We have a lot to clean up. We still scored 31 points. LMAO. End of Story.

Again - our OC is actually SCHEMING players wide open. Our WRs have been ultra trash. And he’s still SCHEMING players wide open on gameday.

When was the last time we’ve seen this? Like.. EVER ago.

If we can manage to develop ONE WR we can depend on... a 7-8 catch guy... this offense will burst wide open, IMO. We need a few more run concepts, but its the WRs who are truly holding us back.

Imagine being D'Eriq King.... you transfer from Conference USA to storied Miami, only to find out that you had BETTER WR at Houston. You had a BETTER OL at Houston. In fact, Miami's best starting OL is a transfer.... from Houston. And he wasn't even Houston's best OL.

Rhett Lashlee had better WR and better line play at SMU.

That's what he has to work with. So the fact that he has us in the top 20 offensively is a god**** miracle. The ONLY reason we're putting up the points we are is because Lashlee is straight up outcoaching people. He's scheming up TD's for us.

That's the straight-up truth. We have great coaching and mediocre talent on offense. You put some real players in this system and we'll be putting up video game numbers.

What's funny is all the CIS mouthbreathers who didn't even start on their high school football team posting screen shots of defenses to point out where Lahlee is missing opportunities to run plays like he doesn't see them and they know more than him.
You’re saying I don’t know more than our offensive coordinator? I did last year

Thanks for @Liberty City El for bringing some logic to the board and walking people off the ledge.

I just wonder how much better this offense would have been with a normal spring and summer to work with..Do not understand how anyone could expect more due to the circumstances and what he inherited

I was happy to see Lashlee get the running backs involved in the passing game, in a game that we knew running would be tough (they still did 100+ yards). The use of Pope was much better and showed in his performance. Until a reliable deep threat emerges, we have to make use of what we DO have.

If the game was against an average or poor defense, definitely not great. But against Pitt, there's not much to talk about.

Expectations were understandably high after UL and FSU but we came crashing back down to earth with 210 yards at Clemson. Pitt went about as expected. For some reason UVA's defense is not playing well so there's finally an opportunity to see some more fireworks but they're also due to put together a good performance so it could just as easily be a slug-fest. Somehow I'm feeling slightly better about our defense than I am about the offense.

Thank you 🙏🏾 I really hope this post helps. Dudes are losing their minds about our offense, the redundancy is nauseating and totally devoid of context or perspective.

I am alarmed at how bad King is in the read option game. I thought that would be a staple of the offense but he seems confused in his reads. The DE is often screaming off the edge to the RB and he still hands it off.

Hey GUYS, It's incredible that we can't play our QB back ups at the end of a game. Mope up duty. I'm a little nervous at this position. Just an observation. Thanks.

After the Pitt game, Bill Connolly has our SP+ Offense at 37th with the defense at 16th. Last year we finished 81st in SP+ offense and 9th in SP+ Defense. FWIW - our SP+ offense of 32.0 this year would have been somewhere in the 40s last year overall. So about the same. Our defense would be somewhere in the 20s. Again, not far off.

Biggest improvement on the team...special teams. In 2019, we were 94th in the nation in SP+ specials...this year #1 in the naysh.
