Find Part 1 of the Freshman 15 here. Part 2 continues below.

8. Josh Sanguinetti, CB/S, Fort Lauderdale, FL (University School)

Ht 6-2 | Wt 170 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #49 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Sanguinetti has next-level instincts at DB and displays great hip-flip when running with receivers. He’d make an outstanding corner or safety at the next level.

In The Mix: Sanguinetti named Miami, Stanford, Ohio St, and Florida as his top group, with Oregon, Oklahoma, and Penn State having the opportunity to join the fray.

Latest: Miami really stands out in Sanguinetti’s mind and he loves that Miami has slowly been bringing the swagger back to the program. The U. School star recently visited the Canes just 2 weeks ago and brought family along, always a good sign. He toured campus, learned more about the academics, and began getting even more comfortable with the coaching staff. The DB coach tag-team of Rumph and Banda have been doing yeoman’s work showing Sanguinetti the love and have built a solid connection with him. Sanguinetti also visited Stanford last month as well, and has now visited both the Canes and Cardinal multiple times. Right now, this is a Miami-Stanford royal rumble that needs more time to play out.

9. Tyrique Stevenson, CB/S, Miami, FL (South Dade)

Ht 6-2 | Wt 185 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #89 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Stevenson just smothers receivers in the passing game and has that rare ability to take half the field away from an opposing offense. The South Dade star runs well for his size and features elite closing speed, while also showing potential as a rangy safety prospect.

In The Mix: Miami, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and others are all fighting for Stevenson’s signature.

Latest: The story on Stevenson is straightforward enough: he’s a former UF commit with plans to play with his buddy and teammate Frank Ladson in college. The Ladson/Stevenson combo has visited UM more than any prospect on this list by far. While we feel good with where the Hurricanes stand with him now, this seems like a recruitment that will end up going down to the wire. Alabama is gearing up to make a hard push and Nick Saban is famously hard to say no to. Will Stevenson be more Gurvan Hall or Josh Jobe? That remains to be seen.

10. Chris Steele, CB, Bellflower, CA (St. John Bosco)

Ht 6-1 | Wt 190 | 247 Composite: 5-Star, #29 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Miami will shoot it’s shot on the blue-chip corner who is fleet of foot, with quick hips and instincts to match. Steele is a true cover corner and he blankets receivers consistently.

In The Mix: Steele is looking at schools such as Miami, Oklahoma, LSU, Louisville, USC, Oregon, and Florida.

Latest: Steele actually planned to be on campus at Miami this weekend for an unofficial visit, but had to cancel. However, Steele confirmed to CIS he will be in Miami for Paradise Camp in July. While we actually want to see him show up on campus first and he'd be a tough pull all the way from California, Steele's interest in the Canes seems to be legit. A potential snag could be with the new official visit rules that allow for spring OV's, as Steele has already set up three April OV's to LSU, Oklahoma, and Louisville. Based on that, it feels like the Canes are chasing those three, and probably local favorite USC as well. As always, securing one of his two remaining OV's will be the key to his recruitment.

11. Braylen Ingraham, DE/DT, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Ht 6-4 | Wt 260 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #234 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Ingraham is the type of hybrid prospect the Canes love, with the ability to play both inside and outside. The Hurricanes would likely move him to DT as he continues to grow to allow his speed and athleticism to become a mismatch against slower offensive guards.

In The Mix: Miami is Ingraham’s leader, with Clemson, Oklahoma, and Auburn also involved.

Latest: Ingraham has been a frequent visitor to campus all throughout the 2017 season and has not been shy to call Miami his leader in various interviews, even with his position coach off to Alabama. Ingraham has unofficial visits to Miami and Oklahoma lined up for the spring. Manny Diaz and the rest of the staff have been in constant contact with Ingraham and have really put themselves in a prime position to land his commitment. We’d feel better if he just pulled the trigger sooner rather than later instead of dragging it out, but this is Miami’s one to lose.

12. Ge’mon Eaford, LB, Deerfield Beach, FL (Deerfield Beach)

Ht 6-1 | Wt 220 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #175 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Eaford has good size for a high school linebacker prospect and is comfortable blitzing from his linebacker spot, something that Manny Diaz loves from his second-level players. He knifes into the backfield well and has good form on tackles.

In The Mix: Miami, UF, and Georgia are top options for Eaford right now.

Latest: The last time we talked to Eaford at the Opening Miami Regional, he named Miami his leader. While he’s been inconsistent to say the least in other interviews, it’s hard to keep a guy off the board that has told us UM is his #1 right now. One thing that’s not disputed is how much he loves how Manny Diaz and the Canes are treating him, with Diaz apparently telling Eaford he was their top LB target. He’ll be on campus at Miami for Junior Day as well. The Gators (and to a lesser extent UGA) are legit contenders for Eaford, so Miami will have to continue to keep their foot on the gas if they want Eaford in this class.

13. Anthony Solomon, LB, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Ht 6-1 | Wt 200 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #179 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Solomon has elite speed and quickness at the linebacker position and is a natural play-maker. He’s a sideline-to-sideline type of player that’s great in coverage and is consistently quick to the ball-carrier. He will have to add size to be ready for the next level, but so do many high schoolers at this stage.

In The Mix: Miami and Michigan are his top 2, with Ohio State, South Carolina, and Oregon involved.

Latest: Michigan was an early leader for Solomon, but the last time I spoke with him, the Canes had caught up to the Wolverines and he was confident in naming both schools to his top 2. Solomon has a strong relationship with Manny Diaz, and it’s also worth noting that his mom attended UM and favors Miami for her son’s destination. He got on campus recently with some teammates and loved it, while Solomon also has plenty of friends on UM’s current roster. While I still think Michigan is the team to beat, Miami is definitely trending in the right direction here.

14. Dontae Lucas, OG, Bradenton, FL (IMG Academy)

Ht 6-4 | Wt 330 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #151 Overall

Behind The Ranking: Lucas is a powerful guard prospect that is physically imposing and strong at the point of attack. His strength comes from a low center of gravity with adequate hip bend. Lucas also shows a little bit of get-up for his size and pulls across a formation with authority.

In The Mix: Lucas is hearing from Miami, FSU, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina the most.

Latest: Originally from Miami Senior High, Lucas has visited the Canes unofficially countless times and also visited FSU recently for their Junior Day. There have been rumors that he gave a silent commitment to FSU at the event, but sources close to the situation and Lucas himself have confirmed to CIS and were adamant that he is in no way, shape, or form committed to the Noles and is completely open with the Canes still in contention. Still, I honestly have no idea what to think here. Buckle up, cause this is going to be a wild ride.

15. Kenny McIntosh, RB, Fort Lauderdale, FL (University School)

Ht 6-1 | Wt 205 | 247 Composite: 4-Star, #106 Overall

Behind The Ranking: McIntosh has good burst through line of scrimmage to rip through arm tackles and attacks the second level. He runs with plus effort every time he touches the ball and always keeps his feet moving at first contact. The RB talent in South Florida is so deep in 2019 and that suppresses McIntosh’s value on this board.

In The Mix: Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, and Florida are in the mix.

Latest: Kenny McIntosh is the younger brother of former Hurricane RJ McIntosh. McIntosh is coming off a recent unofficial visit to Miami two weeks ago, and it’s clear his interest in Miami is huge. He also has talked about playing college ball with current U. School teammate and top Miami DB target Sanguinetti. The issue with McIntosh is not his talent, it’s the RB numbers in this class. There is a very real possibility that McIntosh could get squeezed out of Surge19, say, if Miami lands a surprise pledge from a current longshot like IMG stars Trey Sanders or Noah Cain, or depending on how Miami views Mark-Antony Richards position-wise. As a near top 100 talent and legacy, saying Miami would turn McIntosh away is borderline crazy, but that’s the reality of the RB depth in Florida this cycle. I don’t think it would happen, and Miami will likely try and find a spot for him regardless, but it’s still wild as a possibility.

On the Cusp

With so much talent on the board some dynamic guys had to get left off, but they have a chance to hop on the board next month. Those first five out are:

RB Trey Sanders
RB Noah Cain
OG Deyavie Hammond
DE Lloyd Summerall
CB/S Kenny Logan

We have to keep Neal, Lucas, Sanguinetti, Stevenson, Ladson, Bogel, Ingraham, Eaford, Hammond (WV kid ??) and Solomon home. We have to increase close percentage on elite SoFl talent. Sorrells at DT is a must have!!!! Hunter would make it a "much" better class than 2018 because games are won in the trenches with OL and DL.

Really hope we can swing Steele from LA.

And we absolutely have to keep Lucas home. Can't let the top OL in our backyard get away.

Of course we do...

Can't say I do.

Elam was in the mix for the board. I love his game, but couldn't justify putting him on, too much of a UF lean at this time. That could change in the future, though.
Appreciate it.

I think he's a kid the staff should keep up on throughout his recruitment, the UF connection is really just by his uncle Matt, the old McElway staff were the ones who offered him. The Elam's loyalty is more with Urby & not so much UF.

Unless Abram just wants to send his son to UF I like our chances if we show interest in him, but that's just my gut feeling about it lol

Last few years, it seems Broward has more top-shelf talent than Dade. I haven’t checked the rankings but it sure feels that way.

For some reason I just don't see Ge’mon Eaford in this class.

And I'm fine with that (isn't he the kid that said "you couldn't pay me to go to Miami" or some **** a year or two ago?)

We only need one WDE/OLB Hybrid and we just got that in Sam Brooks.

I would prefer a LB class of:

WDE/OLB - Sam Brooks
ILB/OLB - Jesiah Pierre
ILB/OLB - Avery Huff
OLB/Rover SS - Anthony Solomon
OLB/Rover SS - Keontra Smith

Especially with Diaz wanting to run more 4-2-5 schemes (even though our base D will be a 4-3), having those Rover SS/OLB types are more important than the WDE/OLB Hybrids (that work best in a 3-4 as OLBs that rush the passer).

If we land that ^^^ LB class, it will be the best in the nation by far, meet so many depth needs across a few different positions and give Diaz so much versatility.

So many too pick from!! I love the fact that my Canes are serious contender's for all 15 recruit's.. This Surge19' class is expected to be star studded, so many too pick from..

Awesome write up, really well done man.

This staff is a recruiting machine. Just look at the schools we are landing elite players from, and who we have legit chances with. It’s not just the same schools we’ve always relied on.

Sure signing days have been a little bit of a let down but no one has out-recruited this staff during Spring/Summer and with the early signing period, that’s a huge deal.

Pretty **** impressive.

Moving forward, I hope we continue to sign the bulk of our recruits early.

Sanguinetti,6'2 170 at Lb?He better start eating pasta now
otherwise the first hit and he'll be in the cheap seats at Hard Rock!

Rique for sure

Shouldn’t be any complaint with Stephan’s order. The order is based, in part, on “How likely a recruit is to commit to Miami at the time.” It doesn’t mean ‘Rique or Lucas aren’tas valued or talented as those ahead of them. It might just mean they are not as likely to be ‘Canes as those ahead of them. That’s where Stefan earns his stripes!
