2018 Nigel Bethel, Jr.

This kid looks like a project. He has almost no tape of him at CB and his tape isn't eye popping. Most of it is special teams and offense and he's not exactly out there running circles around kids. He will be a development prospect and I think there are more ready made prospects, such as the one we just lost, that are better than him. I trust the staff and evaluations, but I hope we aren't getting into the business of offering kids because they look good in shorts.

a lot of your better players emerge later athletically and even mentally when an understanding off the game becomes more evident to that player. This bethel kid has good/great speed. that's a plus, a huge plus...the c oaches just peeped the kid out at camp live and in person and soon there will be game tape for all of us to see.

Ivins saying the staff likes Bethel over tyreke johnson

First UF passes on him and now us too? Kids stock seems to be plummeting
UF passed on him?

He tweeted out that he was committed to them but he was never put on the commit list on 247

I think you're talking about Bethel not Johnson.

Yup I thought he was asking about Bethel

Irvins said UF didn't even show up to Tyreke's spring game, a day or 2 later he was visiting UGA

Sounds like Bethel could be committing tomorrow if he is going to be on the podcast.

Thornton and Bethel are the type of SFla affletes we need to be recruiting.

Moar affletes!

Meh, Bethel is not a Miami caliber DB.

Would rather put the scholarship towards another position. Feels like a reach in June. Can't we at least wait to see his senior year? If they slow played Harley so bad last year and don't want to offer some other guys without tape, why are we taking this kid? Because he's tall and fast? He hasn't shown he can be an ACC corner outside of 7v7 work

Idk, I just kinda feel like the professionals running our team know more than you guys. Thats just me though.

People said the same about Coker, radio, and Golden. The DB coaches are green. Bethel and Ivey are projects.

I could not agree more.

Can we a least let this season play out before calling the DB coaches green? I mean they were right on the Adrian Colbert that paid off. This year we have another Grad Transfer and Dean lets see how they perform.

Its clear Diaz Covets bigger longer corners on the outside for his scheme. Both Bethel and Ivey fit that bill.

Clearly Russell is out the door. Not sure this concerns me, save for the following:

1. Pete has been pretty adamant that the staff highly, highly values Russell in this class.
2. Does this mean that RB Davis should also be on flip watch?
3. I really hate losing recruits to UF, especially DB's. It just builds that DB U narrative they keep pumping.

Why do so many UM fans assume that UM has to take every prospect from a HS or we'll wind up with none? What is the genesis of this devout facquitry?

Davis and Russell are reportedly very close, and I believe were once thought of as a package deal. It's a legit question.

It's a legit question if you're predisposed to facquitry. Otherwise, it's just lame hand-wringing pvssy **** from a position of weakness.

They must be super sold on Bethel to offer him so quickly. There are 4 or more UM caliber WRs out there and 1 spot left. They must see Bethel as a super diamond in the rough to offer him when a guy like Finnie is out there with no offer in sight.

Because the defenders of past staphs' poor recruiting would often cite it as an excuse for not getting local talent. So the usual battered housewives around here assume everyone is a package deal, from other studs on the team through their cross-eyed, bow-legged, 5th cousin, who is the reserve punter.

We didn't pull Russell's offer. He left on his own account. I don't see why that all of sudden means Davis is a risk to look elsewhere. The only thing that changed was Russell's decision. I applaud the staff for not re-recruiting him. Weak minds are weak minds and they have their place. It's called UiF.

That "get out of town" and "go away for college" stuff is horse****. Plenty of kids from his side of the track have been safe, sound and successful in Coral Gables. Likewise, plenty have left and also found trouble elsewhere. Kids heart is elsewhere, so be it. It's too early and there's too many good players still on board and at large to worry about it.

I will tell you what changed, one of these local "advisers" loyal to bRandy Sharmonn got in his ear.

Its called depth too. You cant bring in a class full of studs who will more then likely be gone after 3 years. Need a guy like Bethel who will not mind RSing and learning how to become a DB and then unleash him his RS-Jr year. We know guys like Jobe, Campbell, Hall, and Frierson are going to be in the 2-deep Day 1. Maybe even Ivey and Blades as well.
