2015 QB Tiano Talks Miami Offer

Maybe it's just me but I amazed you can get a scholarship offer based on a film and throwing a few passes around. Especially for QB where leadership and character matter so much.

When you hear kids from the 2016 class *****ing about not having offers, or guys constantly saying it's because "so and so school was on my first..." you realize it's a necessary evil in the game. It's dumb as ****, but completely necessary.

If we're gonna do comparisons (which I'm not a big fan of), this is what I would say.

A weaker-armed Blake Bortles or a more athletic Ryan Williams.

He seems to have nice touch, but limited velocity. All of his deep throws are lofted pretty high, fairly similar of Ryan Williams technique on deep throws.

If he wants good academic's and football that puts UM in the lead, unless Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA or Michigan come sniffing around. And UM is the only small university on the list. A bonus. Are we really going to put Duke and Vanderbilt on this list? Nah

It wasn't just his film. Check the article again. Coley met with him to work him out and watch him throw in person before offering.

“Last Wednesday night Coach (James) Coley sent me a message on Twitter and he said he was really impressed with my film and that he thinks I’m talented. He said he wanted to offer me, he just wanted to see me go through a workout. So I went to the stadium and threw about 40 balls. On Saturday night I called him and he watched it and he told me he really liked it and that they wanted to offer me a scholarship.

This is the High School Top 10 rated 2014 QB Micheal O'Conor initially attended when he moved from Canada to the US, but then he left Baylor HS to attend IMG Academy because Baylor High School played weak competition. Based on high Tiano's highlights he hasn't had to throw into tight windows or throw a WR open. I am thinking his offer is not committable and he will need to Camp at UM before it does become committable. I also agree with the other poster about Tiano lacking elite arm strength for the deep ball, he throws remind of Jacory Harris hanging the ball up in the air, but with a ryan williams physical build.

Tiano attened the 2014 Elite 11 camp in Los Angeles back in January and apparently he had a good showing.

Nick Tiano – Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.)
6-5, 218
College: UNDECIDED
Tiano will make his way out west from Tennessee, and has some of the more impressive tape we’ve come across so far.* Is a big body at 6-5, but has a compact release.* What stands out is his ability to change the trajectory on the ball.* Tiano can throw the touch pass but also has the juice to fit it into tight windows.* Is a candidate to really blow up this spring.

I don't see him blowing up so we might be In great shape

Well here is one caviet to consider that concerns me. 2014 QB Mike O'Connor transferred from Baylor HS to IMG Academy to gain more exposure and training under head coach Chris Wienke.

Well considering the concenus at Baylor is that Tiano matched Oconner throw for throw but was named starter based on class.

If I am Wienke I would make a run at recruiting Tiano to IMG Academy for his SR season.

I had the pleasure of coaching Nick for a couple of years and this young man is the real deal! Baylor is one of the country's best schools (Sports Illustrated Top 25), & he is an outstanding student. Nick has it all - cannon arm, accurate, team leader, cerebral, humble, & will out work anyone on the team. Great, supportive family. Nick is the type of student - athlete that can lead a team to a National Championship. My family and I recently moved from Chattanooga to Hutchinson Island. I get a text from Nick, "Coach, I just got an offer from Miami." He is really excited and is looking forward to his visit on the 22nd. Hopefully I'll get to see my boy playing for the U. Two words I thought I would never say - GO Canes!

Thanks for the info...

Few crystal balls to us.. Wonder if we would accept this kid's commitment right now.

Visiting in a few weeks.

Nick visits on Saturday, March 22nd. It will be great to see him. For all you U fans who may not be familiar with The Baylor School, it has a great history. It's where John Hannah played. Baylorschool.org - check it out. I have been reading some of the concerns - not enough film, only saw him throw a few balls, etc. I encourage you to dig deeper. He has excelled at every camp he's attended: Nike, Under Armour, Florida State, & most importantly the Manning Camp. One of the coaches at the Manning Camp (and keep this between us - lol) told me that he was amazed that Nick wasn't the #1 for any program looking for a Pro - style QB and that Nick is one of the best he's seen in years. One of the biggest issues is that Baylor has been a running team for the past 2 years. Not because of QB issues, but they've had personnel suited for running - and you can see that if you watch the film. Wherever he winds up (and I hope it's in Miami) HE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL! When I talk to him & his Dad this week, I'm pushing Miami. I told his Dad if Nick come down the family has me to keep an eye on him. Go 'Canes?
