2013-14 Hurricane Tennis

Miami is not involved, but the NCAA Final Four was held today. In the women's semifinals, North Carolina defeated defending champion Stanford 4-3 and UCLA defeated Florida 4-0 to advance to tomorrow's final. On the men's side, USC beat defending champion Virginia 5-1 to get to the final and Oklahoma (coached by Andy Roddick's brother John) defeated UCLA 4-2. USC will be going for their 5th championships in 6 years and 20th overall. Just ridiculous. So happy to see UCLA go out. One of my Axis of Evil teams.

USC takes the championship by defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 4-2. This is their 21st overall NCAA title and their 5th in 6 years. I realize Miami is nowhere near to competing with Southern California, but as a private school, the Canes could learn a thing or two about building a good tennis team. UCLA took the women's title. California rules college tennis. Again.

NCAA Singles tournament started today. Miami's Stephanie Wagner upset No. 16 Brianna Morgan of Florida to advance to the next round. She now faces No. 5 Beatrice Capra of Duke. Gonna be a tough one. The doubles tournament starts tomorrow. The men did not have any ranked high enough in singles or doubles to be invited to the national tournament. If Wagner can upset Capra tomorrow, she will qualify for All-American honors.
