I’m sure this has been discussed in the hundreds of other pages but I haven’t seen it. For those who have been around long enough and remember that first class with Shannon as we seem to be loading up again on West kids this year, I have two questions.

1. which group of kids are more talented overall? I know there are different positions being recruited in this class verse 08 but overall which is better pre college?

2. if we do end up getting them all this year, which group ends up having better college careers?

That 2008 class was loaded on paper but never got it done in the field outside of Sean Spence. Washington and Streeter were decent and Forston also made a couple plays but never lived up to his 5 star ranking.

From a high school eval standpoint, the 08 class might be the biggest haul from a single high school ever. But like you pointed out, for the most part they massively underachieved. I don’t think it would really take much for the ‘21 class to accomplish more at UM than the 08 class did.

The 08 class also played for Shannon so unfortunately some of that is on their coaching they got but I agree on paper it was loaded

fortson was #1 DT, Aldarius Johnson was Top 5 WR, Tommy Streeter 4 star, Sean Spence (4 star), Brandon Washington stud, Ben Jones we beat out Georgia, Jacory 3 star, and Kendall Thompkins 3 star.

the MNW team was awesome in 2008.

I remember Streeter was a very to himself kid, and played football at MNW butdid Homeschool or virtual school.

washington transferred in to MNW last year.

Ben Jones as a DL/OL that just never transitioned into college.

we also got a bunch of Booker T kids that year also

Id consider Palmetto closer to MNW 2008 due to the mass number of 2021 kids they have ranked highly.

MNW this year has stud players but rankings don’t reflect it, even though on field does

I’m lookin at it simply from a recruiting standpoint and who we are potentially going to end up with from the same school.

not counting palmetto cause it’s a different school and I doubt we get some of those kids. Just MNW vs MNW. @Liberty City El let’s see what you think.

It would've been a good idea to post both years recruits in your question so we can compare the two. It's been a while since the 2008 group and i don't know myself, as I'm sure many others on this site who the 2021 group consist of.

I love this 2021 class at MNW, but from a high school recruiting stand point, it really isn’t close.

Streeter was the WR from '08 with the size and speed - legit 6'5" and went 4.4 at the combine.

I real coaching staff could've done wonders with someone like him - like Butchie's staff, for example.

Same with the other 2 you mentioned - Washington and Forston.

Easy for players to underperform when they have an underperforming staff.

And Spence was the most productive at Miami out of all of them.

But this shouldn't be a surprise either - when a staff isn't the best, it's the kids with the most natural football talent and drive that will shine - just like Perryman and Jaquan when they were here.

I'll let someone else chat about the current Northwestern kids.

i agree. I also think Jacory had his confidence shattered by RS. He could have been much better under a different coach. they forced him to play through injuries too.

We signed 8 players from one high school and the 9th guy became a Pro Bowler

We signed 6 WR from South Florida in that same class and the 7th guy became an Pro Bowler.

It’s been a rough 15 years.

That 2008 MNW team was awesome. I remember them smoking Southlake Carroll that year. I just knew Miami was gonna be great with that class. It just never happened..

Streeter went to turner tech like Kichens does now. NW kids always benefit from inner city hype/bump. All those kids had talent but some get on UM level/radar just for playing at school. Nature of the beast, you better know how to evaluate to separate the true talent.

In '06-07, what the west was doing was unprecedented. The spread was making its way down here and they were setting records. Every skill guy off that offense looked good in 06, easterling was toting the rock and was also D1 bound before he got himself in trouble.
