2008 MNW verse 2021 MNW Recruits

fortson was #1 DT, Aldarius Johnson was Top 5 WR, Tommy Streeter 4 star, Sean Spence (4 star), Brandon Washington stud, Ben Jones we beat out Georgia, Jacory 3 star, and Kendall Thompkins 3 star.

the MNW team was awesome in 2008.

I remember Streeter was a very to himself kid, and played football at MNW butdid Homeschool or virtual school.

washington transferred in to MNW last year.

Ben Jones as a DL/OL that just never transitioned into college.

we also got a bunch of Booker T kids that year also

You know Shannon played favorites and plain sucked when you don’t use Tommy Streeter at all

Even Al Golden knew what he had

I’m lookin at it simply from a recruiting standpoint and who we are potentially going to end up with from the same school.

not counting palmetto cause it’s a different school and I doubt we get some of those kids. Just MNW vs MNW. @Liberty City El let’s see what you think.
I think it's a dumb question (no offense), but it's not really possible to compare classes or players a decade apart from one another considering how different each of them are & the different circumstances surrounding them.

I think the 21 MNW class has potential to be really good, but that all depends on the coaching staff they play for & how they're developed.

Brinson, Kinchens & Brantley IMO are all very good players, I would rank Brinson above any of the WR's from the 08 class in terms of upside.

The MNW LB's from the 08 class are much better than the current 21 LB's.

But rankings were less accurate back then they are now & even now they're still not always spot on. It's a projection & sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't.

It's just too far a gap in time to really compare the players IMO. I went to school with the majority of them boys from the 08 class & back then I would've sworn they all would be All-Americans in college & go on to the NFL to dominate. Most of them did still get to the NFL even if for a short stint, but they didn't live up to the hype, but they all played on really bad Shannon teams that underachieved completely so who TF knows how it would've went with a better coach.

I think you guys think too hard about this shìt when it's simpler than yall make it lol. Recruit good football players & develop them, that's really it, doesn't matter what school they come from, just identify the right ones & develop'em.

21 Bulls are all good kids with a good head on their shoulders, they work hard & love football, they're talented & have potential to be good for us, the staff just needs to do their job & develop them, they'll be fine.

Can't compare!

Player development is on the player and on the staff! Player has to A) want to get better B) staff has to teach them how to play better and become technically sound. The rest is athleticism.

I love this 2021 class at MNW, but from a high school recruiting stand point, it really isn’t close.
Thanks for the rosters. I agree with you on your point.

That 04 Carol City Team would've beat 08 MNW.....If Jacory doesn't drive MNW 99yds in 2mins...they don't even play for State Championship...

U know what I think the problem has been for the last 15 yrs, specifically, for our recruiting?

Previously, the kids came to the U w/ the mindset they are here to add to our legacy. I remember the 08 class was heralded as the class to “bring The U Back.”

Every class since 06 went from the adding to the legacy v. being heralded as bringing the U back. That mentality happens when the school has struggled as mightily as we have. Therefore a sense of entitlement & lack of work ethic takes place as it becomes we need them, they don’t need us. It easily can happen subconsciously, especially when appropriate leadership is not in place.

That 08 class had the hype; on paper we picked up ballers, but who were their mentors? Leaders?

It’s been cyclical, and I’m hoping we start having the appropriate leadership both from a coaching, and locker room standpoint where these Frosh don’t feel the need to “bring The U back” v. adding to the legacy.

I don’t think anybody is touching that 08 MNW class..problem wasn’t them or the 08 ckk ok as a whole , but the classes that followed

Remember the 2008 bulls hype and their disappointment as canes with a few exceptions. Will go out on a limb and say the 2021 bulls will have more of an impact as canes.

Streeter went to turner tech like Kichens does now. NW kids always benefit from inner city hype/bump. All those kids had talent but some get on UM level/radar just for playing at school. Nature of the beast, you better know how to evaluate to separate the true talent.

In '06-07, what the west was doing was unprecedented. The spread was making its way down here and they were setting records. Every skill guy off that offense looked good in 06, easterling was toting the rock and was also D1 bound before he got himself in trouble.

Yup shout out to Turner tech...class of 10 over here lol

I will go to my grave believing that with a different staff that 08 crew would have achieved better results team wise. There were flashes displayed in 08 and 09. What they couldn't do, and this is why you have coaches, is take the next step. It seems like when they got a little taste of moving forward, they thought the job was finished instead of realizing that the hard part was just beginning.

People forget when those kids came in we hadn't ended a season ranked in about 3 or 4 years. That first year we collapsed down the stretch after having shown heart in some tough wins, and then the next year we went into the bowl game going for our tenth win of the season, which hadn't been accomplished in a while. And this happened with what we now know was a head coach that had numerous issues. I really wonder what a Butch Davis staff would have done with those kids. We rightfully talk about his eye for talent, but I think we don't talk nearly enough about the culture and expectations that he put in place. Man knew how to run a PROGRAM.

That 08 MNW class was the first year I started following recruiting. Radio should have gotten more out of them although it’s not like they didn’t have their chances.

Thats why I felt 07 team was better. Easterling and them boys left no doubt in games.. He added that dimension where they were unstoppable. Nobody touching that 07 team I think
