2003 Fiesta Bowl Fiasco (Never saw this before)

Thanks for sharing. That Jonathan Vilma tidbit is one of the reason we’ve had the last 2 decades we did (obviously aside from coaching, player development, etc). But we had guys that truly cared man. Vilma, Ed Reed, etc. Those guys would rather die on that field than lose as you can see from this story how that loss affected him. Now guys are complacent, too comfortable, okay with winning or losing (with the exception of a couple of players).

And if the defense gets the stop on 4th and 14 the game is over and that set of downs doesn't happen. So there's that...
And if Roscoe doesn’t fumble inside the OSU 10 very late in the game, maybe we score a TD and maybe we win 21-17.
And if Dorsey doesn’t throw 2 picks late second quarter to hand OSU 10 easy points.
And if Dorsey gets an accurate pass to wide-open Eric Winston at the goal line, maybe we tie in OT at 31, and fight on.

And if Willis isn’t injured maybe the offense starts to roll…

No 2003 was...we came within one Win from playing for another NC
Difference was Tennessee and the worst QB performance of BB career. That was the killer. But you are right. We were pretty good that year. BB would dig us some holes but then look like superman getting us out(UF). The chinks in the armor were showing though.

I was watching the game at Duffy’s Tavern on Red Road. The Fiesta Bowl was the catalyst why I joined a message board to begin with. I needed an outlet for the inconsolable rage from this robbery so I joined the ESPN college football boards. A few canes posted there and on canesport so I followed.

A few years later, Gary Vermin acted a fool and banned multiple posters so they created Real Cane Talk which was cool for a min but it fizzled out because a few ****head trolls ran off the connected insiders so I signed up here over 10 years ago.

Hard to believe it’s been over 20 years now.

In sports, there are always games that break a team or a franchise and they usually happen on the big stage. Atlanta vs New England in the Super Bowl is one that immediately enters my mind. UCLA losing to us in 98 was another, that team was absolutely loaded and they collapsed right after that.

That game broke the Miami Hurricanes and we haven't recovered from it. We always tried to get back to exactly that, but it never happened.

But its great to read that people let Vilma alone on that flight home. Nowadays, people would stick a camera in his face or yell something at him.

McGahee was starting to get loose when they took out his knee. If he doesn't get hurt I believe we win by 10.
Yea. I agree, we started to get the lanes and gaps later in the game. McGahee going down really took a lot out of the team not only physically, but mentally they didn't have it anymore. Felt like every time there was a slight rhythm earlier in the game we ended up with a penalty or turned it over. I honestly haven't watched that full game since that night and the only time Ive even seen highlights of it was the documentaries.

Sean Taylor threw his helmet in the air in celebration. The ear pieces separated and they had to get the staff to get the **** helmet back together for him to be able to wear. Not sure if he missed any plays or not, but **** it man.
