2003 Fiesta Bowl Fiasco (Never saw this before)

We couldn't get in sync most of the game and shot ourselves in the foot a lot that night. Still a horrendous call that decided a national title.
Bad call or not (and injuries aside), seemed like they wanted it more & outplayed us for a good portion of the game. Too talented to allow that to happen, even if it was a very underrated OSU squad.

Just keep ripping the band aid off huh? As painful as the thought of that game is and coming off the sh*t stain of a season we had this help ease our pain?

Masochism on full display 😂
Lol nah, but thought it was bad call before. Never realized it got tipped. Just kinda amazed something etched in my memory for 20 years had a new layer i never saw.

Never realized about WJo - crazy. Anyway, who cares and why you do that?

OSU fans will just respond with "so, look at all of these missed calls that should have been called against you" blah blah

I’m looking forward to the day where we’ve won another 2-3 ‘ships so can move on from the pain of 2003.

20 years later and collectively we haven’t moved past it.

One of the more surreal experiences of my life. My wife and I went to that game. Had seats on the aisle of a main entrance. That play occurs, the whistle blows, fireworks go off from the top of the stadium, a group of Ohio State fans come walking past me shaking my hand saying, "Good win, Cane. You cant say we didn't give you a game."

About 30 seconds later the announcer says, "There is a penalty flag on the field." I jokingly told my wife they were flagging the Hurricanes for excessive celebration of a national title. The rest of the game you know about.

THEN...

The next day I had to go to a conference in Dallas, my wife went home to The Bay Area. I walked her to her gate then walked to mine. The entire airport was filled with Ohio State fans. Had to be 100,000 of them. I get on my flight, I'm the ONLY person wearing Miami Hurricanes gear. Everyone else is wearing buckeyes gear. Just before they close the doors a flight attendant approaches the guy sitting in the window seat next to me and asks if he wouldn't mind sitting in another seat due to a special circumstance. The guy agrees.

I stand up to let the guy out. He walks towards the back and another flight attendant escorts Jon Vilma to the seat next to me. We take off and Jon Vilma proceeds to sit with his headphones on & hoodie over his head just totally sobbing and crying uncontrollably for an entire two hour flight. He would periodically stop and catch his breath and his mind would wander, then he would break down again and again. As a father I fought back the urge to just give him a huge bear hug. I said nothing to him the entire flight. When the plane landed in Dallas he walked off. All of the Ohio State fans just gave him space.

Just a totally surreal experience.
