Brethren; I made a post very similar to this months ago. I said if u look at our staffs from 83 - 2001 were full of guys where the NFL, CFB, or start up football leagues were trying to or did pluck. Now? Go look at Coker’s staff once Butch’s guys defected. Go look at Shannon, Golden, Richt, and Manny’s staff year & u’ll notice a common theme.
Good point. I doubt any college staff had 8 future NFL HCs and position coaches and a grad asst that won a NC.

Good breakdown, but gary stevens didn't cost us that game, cb testa was almost the sole reason , 5 picks, and instead of handing the ball off to highsmith who got us down their, he changed the play to a pass. There is a reason you barely here other players mention his name. While crime dogg was definitely a good db coach, as well as Chuck and campo, coach mark stoops says hello.

And most definitely tommie robinson, was real solid as the running backs coach, coach sol definitely gets the 1st place trophy.
From what I've heard they kept telling Vinny just run the ball and he kept changing the called plays.

Good call. Tressel was very close to getting the UM job when Butch was hired. Going thru an ugly divorce at the time and removed himself from contention, it was down to Tress and Butch and that is from multiple board members and YSU AD Joe Malmisuer who had given UM the go ahead

Alot of people didn't realize how connected ole sweater vest was to the Miami area, that man had been recruiting Dade County hard back when other schools were scared. My boy played for em at youngstown st. back when they beat STEVE MCNAIR and them for the championship
Joe Brodsky sends his best! Mark Stoops had good years here, he literally wanted to fight Porter after the game. Said in an interview after the game that they let us push and shove both sides all game, Including the blatant push off by Jenkins on fourth and 14th and then they throw that nickel **** flag Not exact wording, Stoops boys are intense

LoL, also, it's normally a good combination when coaches from Oklahoma or with Oklahoma ties coach Miami or Florida boys, remember, their mindsets are a notch or 2 below ours cause they grew up or around the Oklahoma dominant years just without the ships that we got to show for it. But mindset wise they try and bring it like we bring it. But it's a reason we dominated back in the day, you see the guys on t.v. Irvin, Sapp(well he use to be), ed reed, ray, vilma, wayne and others, the aggressive mindset always keeps jumping off the screen, walk it like we talk it all day long!

Tress always had a few Dade guys from the time he started at YSU and then at OSU. UM football had a connection to Youngstown starting with Bernie and ending with Gino. Remember JC Penny, one of the great names in college football history, was from Youngstown.

shoot. forgot about stoops as DB coach. nice catch. yes, he's up there no doubt with the other guys.

and gary cost us that game as much as anyone. after the first quarter he should have switched up what he was doing. too long to get into here, but i did go over that tape extensively with my former OC and head coach, and the two reactions were: 1) "how in holy F8ck did Miami lose that game??" and 2) everything at the hashes in the out to curl were open all night since PSU was in their 40-Read and 40 Stay packages from the opening snap. so, "WTF was the OC thinking not pushing the edges until the 4th quarter."

Not to mention the screaming that occurred: "Give it to ALONZO!!!"

And no disrespect to Solly, but Brodsky was in a class by himself.

Gary Stevens, Joe Brodsky (great Dade County rb in his own right) and Hubbard Alexander were all holdovers from Schnellenberger’s staff. But point taken, JJ thought enough of their abilities to take them with him to Dallas.

You sir are correct. Those three guys were our best at what they did imo.

Most definitely, jc penny, lol, ole skool, always was a good name just to holla out. We definitely had some real solid players come from ohigho to Miami!

Gino Toretta? He was from California, near the Bay area.

Married a Youngstown girl who graduated from UM. Spent plenty of time in Ytown. G is one of UM’s greatest ambassadors.
Brought his Heisman to UM -OSU (Youngstown tailgate party) when Canes came to Columbus!

Worst loss in a big game in UM history including OSU. Canes were superior at every position. Brodsky and Coach Ax were both in their own class.

it's not just the number of guys who went on, but how good they were as UM position coaches:

Wanny: Probably the Best LB coach in UM history (Tubberville was a dirtbag, but he knew LB's. So did Randy Shannon, despite his record as HC).
Butch: Harold Allen was the Best DL coach, but Butch was up there (top 3)
Dave Campo: As DB coaches, he and Chuck Pagano were the top ones at UM. Wesley McGriff was really good too
Gary Stevens: Had his flat spots, but was very good as a college OC (top 3-4 at UM, even though he cost us the Fiesta Bowl against PSU)
Hubbbard Alexander: He and Curtis Johnson were the best as WR coaches. Hubbard was a good recruiter as well. CJ was not
Tony Wise: As OL coach, he was as good as they come. And Chris Vagotis was great
Joe Brodsky: Best.RB.Coach.Ever. (Soldinger knew RB's, but was pretty miserable as a recruiter, so he's no. 2. Tommie Robinson is up there as well)
CJ was not a good recruiter?

Remember he was not the first Torretta to play for us.
The first Torretta is the only reason the second Torretta came to UM. Washington and WSU were his only offers when Jimmy offered and said he’d have a chance to play, no promises. The rest is history. Oh by the way, the WSU coach at that time was Dennis Erickson.

Kind of interesting how the couple years that Jimmy was at Pitt helped somewhat set the table staff-wise for him down the line here. Both Wanny and Wise were with him there and Campo had just left.
